Omschrijving
Omschrijving complexonderdeel 2

Description
Description complex component 2
The historic PARK of Hoog Beek en Royen was probably laid out in landscape style between 1825 and 1832. The layout on the elongated, nearly rectangular plot was created in two phases: a meandering pool around and behind the house over practically the entire length of the plot and extending to the estate Sparrenheuvel, south of the 18th century straight avenue (1825-1827) and a curved path pattern between this avenue and the Laan van Beek en Royen (1830-1836). During the second phase the estate acquired the existing orangery on the far side of the Driebergseweg, the coach house, the garden house and the kitchen garden wall along the south side of the grounds.
The water feature and the path pattern of the landscape layout are now still almost entirely present and have undergone virtually no changes since their creation, with the exception of the filling in on the side of Sparrenheuvel. Two wrought-iron gate piers at the beginning of the 18th century straight avenue mark the access from the Driebergseweg to the estate. A curved path leads via a bridge over the meandering pool to the rear entrance of the country house and the adjoining coach house. The relatively narrow meandering pool runs from the front of the raised country house to the left towards the rear south of the straight avenue and makes a bend towards the southern plot boundary, where it is dammed in the rear woodland. The water originally ran as a ditch through to the Arnhemse Bovenweg. The dry bed of it is still present. In front of the house, at the edge of the water, are on the left a rhododendron group, in the bend a quartet of oaks and on the right, as a screen to the outbuildings, a group of trees consisting of three oaks and a red beech. With gentle curves behind the house a round walk has been made between the meandering pool and the straight avenue and back, over the meandering pool, along the southern edge of the park along the mortared kitchen garden wall. The meandering pool and the path pattern enclose an open space with sloping lawn, which forms the central park section behind the house. From the house and the flat bridge with sandstone piers to the left of the house, sight lines run with tree groups and specimens (yew and beech group, solitary lindens) to the rear section of the park. A remnant of a raised tea pavilion closes off the sight line from the house. Behind the central open space is a park woodland with curved paths, predominantly lined with oaks. A rear exit emerges onto the Arnhemse Bovenweg.
Between the 18th century avenue, which on both sides still largely retains the original planting of oaks, and the Laan van Beek en Royen is a similar park woodland with curved avenue pattern, here predominantly planted with beeches (front section) and pines (rear section). The park section is here accessible at three points along the Laan van Beek en Royen. Two right-angled straight paths with remnants of a rond-point, which are partially lined with oaks, formed in the 18th century together with the straight avenue remnants of the formal garden layout of the estate Beek en Royen.
Valuation complex component 2
The park of Hoog Beek en Royen is of cultural-historical importance as a good and still very intact example of a complete, early 19th century landscape park with meandering pool, path pattern with characteristic round walk, open space with fine relief work, sight lines, park woodland sections etc. Furthermore, the park is of importance because of its ensemble value and its striking location near the built-up area of Zeist and forming part of the Stichtse Lustwarande.
