Omschrijving
HISTORISCHE TUIN- EN PARKAANLEG behorende tot de buitenplaats Den Dam. De kern van de aanleg bestaat uit drie eilanden, waarvan het vierkante, omgrachte terrein met het huis het oudste element vormt (zie kaart 1702). In de derde kwart van de achttiende eeuw is de omgrachting uitgebreid met een vijfhoekig terrein, thans in gebruik als moestuin, en ten oosten daarvan met een langwerpig weiland. Rondom de moestuin loopt een oude beukenhaag. Het eiland wordt aan de noordzijde ontsloten middels een houten brug waarop een houten spijlenhek voorzien van een ijzeren puntrand aan de bovenzijde. Rond de verfraaide buitengracht, die ten dele is verbreed, een strook loofbos met een rondgaande slingerende eikenlaan. Vanaf de laan wisselende zichten op het huis en omringende omgeving. Aan deze eenvoudige aanleg in landschapsstijl (zie kaart 1810), ligt, zover bekend, geen duidelijk ontwerp ten grondslag. Voor het huis ligt een ovaal perk gestoffeerd met solitairen en boomgroepen. Links daarvan een recent herstelde komvormige vijver. Vanaf het huis loopt een zichtlijn naar een weiland waarin een dijklichaam, waarop thans (1997) een dubbele laan op aan is geplant die als zichtlaan fungeert. Deze laan staat aangegeven op de kaarten uit 1778/1779 en uit 1807. Oorspronkelijk werd het de buitenplaats aan de westzijde ontsloten (laan thans nog aanwezig), doch in de derde kwart van de achttiende eeuw werd het goed aan de oostzijde toegankelijk gemaakt, doordat de Damlaan vanaf de Kapperallee werd doorgetrokken. Dit zou een verklaring geven voor het feit dat de lanen scheef op elkaar staan. In de zuidoosthoek van de aanleg een rabattenbos waar een diagonale, in driehoeksverband aangeplante eikenlaan (achttiende-eeuws) doorheen loopt, die aan de overzijde van de Damlaan verder gaat. Langs de rand van dit bos en het aansluitende weiland een achttiende-eeuwse laan van eiken en beuken.

Description
HISTORIC GARDEN AND PARK LAYOUT belonging to the country estate Den Dam. The core of the layout consists of three islands, of which the square moated site with the house forms the oldest element (see map 1702). In the third quarter of the eighteenth century the moat was extended with a pentagonal site, now in use as a kitchen garden, and to the east of it with an elongated meadow. Around the kitchen garden runs an old beech hedge. The island is accessed on the north side by means of a wooden bridge on which a wooden balustrade fence with an iron pointed edge at the top. Around the embellished outer moat, which is partly widened, a strip of deciduous woodland with a circling meandering oak avenue. From the avenue changing vistas of the house and surrounding landscape. Underlying this simple layout in landscape style (see map 1810), as far as is known, no clear design. In front of the house lies an oval bed planted with specimen trees and tree groups. To the left of it a recently restored bowl-shaped pond. From the house runs a sightline to a meadow with a dyke body, on which now (1997) a double avenue has been planted which serves as a sightline avenue. This avenue is shown on maps from 1778/1779 and from 1807. Originally the country estate was accessed on the west side (avenue still present now), but in the third quarter of the eighteenth century the property became accessible on the east side, as the Damlaan was extended from the Kapperallee. This would provide an explanation for the fact that the avenues are at an angle to each other. In the south-east corner of the layout a shrubbery with a diagonal oak avenue planted in triangular formation (eighteenth-century) running through it, which continues on the other side of the Damlaan. Along the edge of this woodland and the adjoining meadow an eighteenth-century avenue of oaks and beeches.
