Omschrijving
HOOFDGEBOUW (Den Dam). Op een omgracht terrein ligt een blokvormig hoofdgebouw in oorsprong daterend uit de zestiende eeuw, dat in 1765 in classicistische stijl is verbouwd en vergroot. Het witgepleisterde pand met donkere plint is gebouwd op een rechthoekig, onregelmatig gevormd plattegrond en bestaat uit twee bouwlagen (deels onderkelderd) onder een met blauwe friese pannen afgeplat schilddak. De symmetrisch ingedeelde voorgevel telt zeven traveeën met in het midden, vooraf gegaan door een hardstenen bordes (vergroot in 1938) met banken, de omlijste toegangsdeur met bovenlicht waarboven een verdiepingsvenster en een meerruits dakkapel onder een driehoekig fronton. De gevel heeft een invulling met gemoderniseerde vensters: op de begane grond H-vensters met persiennes, op de verdieping T-vensters met persiennes en aan weerszijden van de ingangspartij halve vensters. In de gevel zijn de wapens van Van der Capellen en van Ripperda (1599) gemetseld en een gedenksteen. Tegen de oostgevel een verdiepingloze aanbouw (herenkamer) uit 1938 met een H-venster met persiennes in de voorgevel en tuindeuren aan een bordes in de zijgevel. De achtergevel kent een onregelmatig indeling met een toegangsdeur en meerruits dakkapellen. Aan de oostzijde een gedeeltelijk houten bordes aan de aanbouw van 1938. Verbouwingen huis (inwendig) in 1875. Van het huis is alleen de kamer rechts van de voordeur onderkelderd met kruisgewelven.

Description
MAIN BUILDING (Den Dam). On a moated site lies a block-shaped main building originally dating from the sixteenth century, which was rebuilt and enlarged in 1765 in classical style. The white-rendered building with dark plinth is built on a rectangular, irregularly shaped floor plan and consists of two storeys (partly cellared) under a hipped roof covered with blue Friesland tiles with flattened ridge. The symmetrically arranged front facade comprises seven bays with in the centre, preceded by a stone dressing steps (enlarged in 1938) with benches, the framed entrance door with fanlight above which a window on the upper floor and a multi-pane roof dormer under a triangular pediment. The facade has infilling with modernised windows: on the ground floor H-windows with venetian blinds, on the upper floor T-windows with venetian blinds and on either side of the entrance arrangement half-windows. In the facade are set the coats of arms of Van der Capellen and of Ripperda (1599) and a memorial stone. Against the east facade a single-storey extension (gentlemen's room) from 1938 with an H-window with venetian blinds in the front facade and garden doors to a terrace in the side facade. The rear facade has an irregular arrangement with an entrance door and multi-pane roof dormers. On the east side a partly wooden terrace to the 1938 extension. Alterations to the house (interior) in 1875. Only the room to the right of the front door of the house is cellared with cross vaults.
