Inleiding
Neo-Gotisch CATECHISATIELOKAAL uit 1889 met enkele elementen in de Neo-Hollandse Renaissance, ontworpen door de architect F.C. Koch. Koch werd daarbij beïnvloed door P.J.H. Cuypers die tegelijkertijd de Grote Kerk (apart monumentnummer 41666) restaureerde.
Het pand is aan drie zijden ingesloten door de Grote Kerk en aanbouwen daarvan; alleen de voorgevel staat vrij. Het gebouw staat in het beschermd stadsgezicht van Zwolle binnen de stadsgracht.
Omschrijving
Het pand is opgetrokken op een rechthoekige plattegrond in rode baksteen over een souterrain en één bouwlaag, onder een schilddak met leien in Rijndekking. De gevel is opgemetseld boven een zandstenen plint en verlevendigd door zandstenen sierbanden, aanzet- en sluitstenen en sierankers.
De gevel telt vijf vensterassen. Boven de tweede en vierde vensteras een trapgeveltje. De rechtgesloten vensters met zandstenen kruiskozijnen en een fijne roedenverdeling zijn geplaatst onder rondbogen. In de boogtrommels gotische traceringen in zandsteen. De onderste helft van de vensters is behangen met opgeklampte luiken. In de middelste vensteras wordt het onderste deel van het venster door de toegang in beslag genomen. Deze bestaat uit een trap van twee treden, een opgeklampte deur in een zandstenen lijst onder een waterdorpel van zandsteen. Eenzelfde waterdorpel loopt over de gehele breedte onder de vensters door. Onder de vensters telkens twee kleine souterrainvensters met ijzeren roosters onder segmentbogen in de plint.
De gevel wordt afgesloten door een zandstenen balustrade met gotische tracering op een waterlijst. In de twee trapgevels, die deze balustrade onderbreken, bevinden zich kleine kruisvensters identiek aan de grote. Erboven zijn segmentbogen in het metselwerk aangegeven. De trapgevels zijn voorzien van zandstenen dekstenen. Midden in het dakvlak aan de voorzijde is een dakkapel met luik onder een koperen schilddakje geplaatst.

Description
The building is constructed on a rectangular plan in red brick over a basement and one storey, under a hipped roof with slates in Rhine bond. The facade is built above a sandstone plinth and enlivened by sandstone decorative bands, setting and closing stones and ornamental wall anchors.
The facade has five window bays. Above the second and fourth window bays a stepped gable. The straight-sided windows with sandstone cross windows and fine glazing bars are placed under round arches. In the arch drums Gothic tracery in sandstone. The lower half of the windows is hung with hinged shutters. In the middle window bay the lower part of the window is occupied by the entrance. This consists of a flight of two steps, a hinged door in a sandstone list under a drip moulding of sandstone. The same drip moulding runs the full width under the windows. Below the windows each time two small basement windows with iron grilles under segmental arches in the plinth.
The facade is closed off by a sandstone balustrade with Gothic tracery on a drip moulding. In the two stepped gables, which interrupt this balustrade, are small cross windows identical to the large ones. Above these are segmental arches indicated in the brickwork. The stepped gables are provided with sandstone coping stones. In the middle of the roof plane on the front side is a roof dormer with a shutter under a copper hipped roof placed.
