Inleiding
Voormalige MEETPOST, deel uitmakend van de in 1938-1939 gebouwde "Batterij Den Hoorn" op Texel.
De meetpost is gelegen in de raai van strandpaal 8, in de binnenduinen. Oorspronkelijk telde de batterij drie meetposten, waarvan thans alleen nog de (hier beschreven) zuidelijke resteert. De meetgegevens van de drie meetposten dienden om de positie van de zeedoelen te bepalen. De verwerking van deze gegevens vond plaats in de werkkamer. De resterende, hier beschreven, meetpost was oorspronkelijk grotendeels ingegraven in het duinzand.
Omschrijving
Meetpost op zeshoekig grondplan (een oost-westgerichte rechthoek met afgeschuinde hoeken aan de oostzijde), uitgevoerd in gewapend beton. Het gebouw meet een grootste lengte van 6.25 meter, een breedte (exclusief dwarsconstructie) van 2.95 meter en een hoogte (inclusief funderingsplaat) van 3.55 meter. De bovendekking bestaat uit een plaat gewapend beton ter dikte van 0.70 meter.
De ingang bevindt zich aan de oostzijde en bestaat uit een metalen luik.
De interne observatieruimte heeft aan de noord-, zuid- en westzijde een kijksleuf. Voor de stabiliteit is aan de noordelijke en zuidelijke buitenwand een betonnen vleugelvormige dwarsconstructie aangebracht.
Het gebouw heeft aan de frontzijde (west) een wanddikte van 0.90 meter, de overige buitenwanden hebben een dikte van 0.75 meter.
Het luik aan de oostzijde geeft toegang tot het interieur bestaande uit een kleine, dwarsgeplaatste gang met aansluiting op de observatieruimte. In de observatieruimte stonden oorspronkelijk een meettoestel en een smal dubbelbed opgesteld.
Waardering
De meetpost is van algemeen belang wegens militair- en architectuurhistorische waarde als historisch-functioneel onderdeel van het militaire verdedigingswerk "Batterij Den Hoorn" en als voorbeeld van een zware gewapend betonconstructie uit de laatste fase van de permanente versterkingsbouw in Nederland.

Former OBSERVATION POST, forming part of the "Battery Den Hoorn" built on Texel in 1938-1939.
The observation post is located in the line of beach pole 8, in the inner dunes. Originally the battery comprised three observation posts, of which only the (here described) southern one now remains. The measurement data from the three observation posts served to determine the position of sea targets. The processing of this data took place in the operations room. The remaining, here described, observation post was originally largely buried in the dune sand.
Description
Observation post on hexagonal ground plan (an east-west oriented rectangle with bevelled corners on the east side), executed in reinforced concrete. The building measures a greatest length of 6.25 metres, a width (excluding cross structure) of 2.95 metres and a height (including foundation slab) of 3.55 metres. The top covering consists of a plate of reinforced concrete with a thickness of 0.70 metres.
The entrance is situated on the east side and consists of a metal hatch.
The internal observation space has a viewing slit on the north, south and west sides. For stability, a concrete wing-shaped cross structure is provided on the northern and southern outer walls.
The building has on the front side (west) a wall thickness of 0.90 metres, the remaining outer walls have a thickness of 0.75 metres.
The hatch on the east side provides access to the interior consisting of a small, transversely placed corridor with connection to the observation space. In the observation space were originally positioned a measuring instrument and a narrow double bed.
