Inleiding
Voormalige UITWATERINGSSLUIS met drie sluisdeuren en toevoerende kanalen, gerealiseerd in 1875 maakt onderdeel uit van het uitwateringscomplex van de polders "Het Noorden", "Eijerland", "Waal en Burg". Het toegevoerde water is afkomstig uit drie toevoeren: een noordelijke boezem (ten behoeve van de afwatering van de polder Eijerland), een zuidwestelijk gelegen boezem en de molenkolk (ten behoeve van de afwatering van de polder Het Noorden) en een zuidelijke boezem (ten behoeve van de afwatering van de polder Waal en Burg). Vanwege het verzwaren van de zeedijk aan de oostkant van het eiland in 1980 heeft Rijkswaterstaat het gedeelte ten oosten van de sluisdeuren verwijderd en de niet meer dienst doende sluis daar met een betonnen wand afgesloten.
Omschrijving
De uitwateringssluis heeft drie houten sluisdeuren, met verticaal schuivende deuren. De sluismuren van de uitwateringssluis zijn opgetrokken in paarsrode baksteen, met hardstenen verstevigingen op een aantal hoeken en zijn (later) voorzien van betonnen dekplaten. Boven elke sluisdeur is een gietijzeren windwerk aangebracht, waarlangs de sluisdeuren omhoog 'gedraaid' konden worden. Het windwerk rust gedeeltelijk op de sluismuur en het andere deel is bevestigd aan de houten sluisdeuren. Boven de middelste schuif is in de damwand een hardstenen gedenkplaat, ter herinnering aan de eerste steenlegging, aangebracht. Voorts zijn er in de damwand diverse smeedijzeren verankeringen zichtbaar.
Waardering
De uitwateringssluis is van algemeen belang als historisch-functioneel onderdeel van het uitwateringscomplex van de polders "Het Noorden", "Eijerland", "Waal en Burg". Daarnaast is het object uit waterstaatkundig oogpunt van belang als een uit het vierde kwart van de negentiende eeuw daterende drieledige keer- en spuisluis.

Former DRAINAGE SLUICE with three sluice gates and supply channels, constructed in 1875, forming part of the drainage complex of the polders "Het Noorden", "Eijerland", "Waal en Burg". The supplied water originates from three supply channels: a northern boezem (for the drainage of the polder Eijerland), a south-westerly situated boezem and the mill lock (for the drainage of the polder Het Noorden) and a southern boezem (for the drainage of the polder Waal en Burg). Due to the reinforcement of the sea dike on the east side of the island in 1980, Rijkswaterstaat removed the section to the east of the sluice gates and closed off the no longer functioning sluice there with a concrete wall.
Description
The drainage sluice has three wooden sluice gates, with vertically sliding doors.
