Inleiding
LANDHUIS, genaamd "De Merelhof", behorende tot het complex "De Merelhof", gebouwd in 1927 naar het ontwerp van Th. Rueter in de Gooise landhuisstijl met Indonesische invloeden in de kapbehandeling (Minang Kabau), vrijstaand en iets terugliggend gelegen aan de noordoostzijde van de Dr. Catzlaan te Blaricum.
NB: De vensters van de serre, het venster onder gekleurd glas-in-loodbovenlicht in de zuidoostgevel en het middelste venster in de noordoostgevel zijn voorzien van voorzetramen.
Omschrijving
Op een vrijwel rechthoekige plattegrond met vijfhoekige erker aan de zuidzijde opgetrokken landhuis, bestaande uit een bouwlaag onder rieten schilderachtige kapbehandeling met de noklijn evenwijdig aan de weg. Aan de zuidwestzijde is een dakkapel met drie draaivensters in het rieten dak opgenomen, aan de zuidoost- en noordoostzijde een dakkapel met twee draaivensters. De gevels zijn opgetrokken in rode baksteen en hout. De vensters en openslaande deuren hebben een roedenverdeling en zijn voorzien van luiken.
De voorgevel (ZW) bevat aan de linkerzijde, in een iets terugliggend gevelvlak, de toegangsdeur, bestaande uit boven- en onderdeur, onder acht-ruitsbovenlicht. Op het kozijn is het bouwjaar geschilderd: "ANNO 1927". Voor de deur bevindt zich een stenen stoep, aan de linkerzijde geflankeerd door een bloembak. Een zes-ruitsvenster geeft zicht vanuit het woongedeelte naar de stoep. Op de westhoek is op de gevel een houten lantaarn aangebracht. In de voorgevel zijn voorts geplaatst een venster bestaande uit vier acht-ruitsvensters en openslaande deuren, toegang gevend tot een aan de zijkanten ommuurd terras waarboven het dak en houten plafond worden gedragen door gesneden schoren en consoles. Op de zuidhoek bevindt zich de vijfkantige serre, waarvoor een lage stenen bloembak is gemetseld.
De linker zijgevel (NW) bevat aan de linkerzijde een deur in een rechthoekige houten uitbouw, opgenomen in de helling van het dak, geflankeerd door vier-ruitsvensters. Het trappenhuis wordt verlicht door vier gekleurde glas-in-loodramen, trapsgewijs geplaatst in het geveldeel dat in de top is bekleed met hout. Aan de rechterzijde bevindt zich een vier-ruitsvenster. Verdiept geplaatst is een getoogd kelderraam.
De rechter zijgevel (ZO) bevat een zes-ruitsvenster onder gekleurd glas-in-lood bovenlicht en een kruisvenster met zes-ruitsvensters en vier-ruitsbovenlichten. In het terugliggende geveldeel aan de rechterzijde bevindt zich een gekleurd glas-in-loodraam. Horizontale houten delen verbinden daarboven de twee geveldelen.
De achtergevel (NO) bevat van links naar rechts een dubbel zes-ruitsvenster, een kruisvenster met acht-ruitsvensters en vier-ruitsbovenlichten en een kruisvenster met zes-ruitsvensters en vier-ruitsbovenlichten. In de noordoostgevel van de houten uitbouw is een zes-ruitsvenster geplaatst.
In het interieur zijn originele elementen aanwezig, onder meer de deuren, lambrizeringen en trapbalustrade in de hal en de kastwanden en lambrizeringen in de eet/woonkamer.

Description
A country house erected on an almost rectangular floor plan with a pentagonal bay on the south side, consisting of one storey under thatched picturesque roof treatment with the ridge line parallel to the road. On the south-west side a roof dormer with three casement windows is incorporated into the thatched roof, on the south-east and north-east sides a roof dormer with two casement windows. The gables are constructed in red brick and timber. The windows and glazed doors have glazing bars and are provided with shutters.
The front gable (SW) contains on the left side, in a slightly recessed gable plane, the entrance door, consisting of upper and lower doors, under an eight-pane fanlight. On the frame the construction year is painted: "ANNO 1927". In front of the door there is a stone step, flanked on the left side by a planter. A six-pane window provides a view from the living area towards the step. On the west corner a wooden lantern is attached to the gable. Further placed in the front gable are a window consisting of four eight-pane windows and glazed doors, providing access to a terrace enclosed on the sides, above which the roof and wooden ceiling are supported by carved brackets and consoles. On the south corner is the pentagonal conservatory, for which a low stone planter has been built.
The left side gable (NW) contains on the left side a door in a rectangular timber extension, incorporated into the roof slope, flanked by four-pane windows. The stairwell is lit by four coloured leaded-glass windows, placed in steps in the gable section that is clad in timber at the top. On the right side there is a four-pane window. Set back is an arched basement window.
The right side gable (SE) contains a six-pane window under a coloured leaded-glass fanlight and a cross window with six-pane windows and four-pane fanlights. In the recessed gable section on the right side there is a coloured leaded-glass window. Horizontal timber sections connect the two gable sections above.
The rear gable (NE) contains from left to right a double six-pane window, a cross window with eight-pane windows and four-pane fanlights and a cross window with six-pane windows and four-pane fanlights. In the north-east gable of the timber extension a six-pane window is placed.
In the interior original elements are present, including the doors, wall panelling and stair balustrade in the hall and the built-in cupboards and wall panelling in the dining/living room.
