Inleiding
Het in 1882 in eclectische stijl gebouwde dubbele herenhuis behoort tot de oudste panden aan de Kornputsingel, waarvan de even zijde is gebouwd op de voormalige, in de jaren zeventig van de negentiende eeuw geslechte stadswallen en waarvan de achterzijde grenst aan de stadsgracht en het grondgebied van de villa Rams Woerthe. Kornputsingel 46 vormt één geheel met het eveneens beschermde pand Kornputsingel 44.
Omschrijving
Het vanuit een rechthoekige plattegrond opgetrokken pand heeft een souterrain en twee bouwlagen onder een met gegolfde Friese pannen gedekt, afgeknot schilddak. De drie traveeën brede, door middel van lisenen gelede voorgevel met zware, geprofileerde kroonlijst aan het entablement heeft gevelopeningen binnen profiellijsten met afgeronde bovenhoeken. De ingang van nr. 46 bevindt zich links van de linker liseen en valt niet onder de kap. Deze travee lijkt zodoende toegevoegd aan de rest van het pand, dat waarschijnlijk oorspronkelijk één groot woonhuis was en na een verbouwing in 1896 de huidige indeling kreeg. Tegen de blinde linker zijgevel van gepleisterde baksteen is het priëel van nr. 48 geplaatst.
De interieurs van beide woningen verkeren niet meer in originele staat. Van nr. 46 zijn de originele stucplafonds weggewerkt achter systeemplafonds. Alleen de trap is nog 19e-eeuws met de oorspronkelijke gietijzeren spijlen.
Waardering
Het relatief sobere, maar stilistisch gave pand heeft een goed bewaard exterieur dat deel uitmaakt van een gave laat-19e-eeuwse gevelwand met panden in eclectische stijl. Deze vormen als bebouwing van de voormalige stadswallen en in samenhang met tuin en bebouwing van de villa Rams Woerthe een zeer waardevol stedebouwkundig geheel en hebben derhalve grote stedebouwkundige en ensemblewaarde; de gaafheid en stilistische verscheidenheid maken ze architectuur-historisch van belang.

Description
The building, erected from a rectangular floor plan, has a basement and two storeys under a hipped roof covered with corrugated Frisian tiles and topped. The three-bay wide front facade, articulated by means of pilasters with heavy, profiled cornice on the entablature, has openings within mouldings with rounded upper corners. The entrance of no. 46 is located to the left of the left pilaster and does not fall under the roof. This bay thus appears added to the rest of the building, which was probably originally one large dwelling and after a renovation in 1896 received its present layout. Against the blind left side facade of rendered brick the garden room of no. 48 is placed.
The interiors of both dwellings are no longer in original condition. Of no. 46 the original stucco ceilings have been covered over behind system ceilings. Only the staircase is still 19th-century with the original cast iron balusters.

The relatively sober, but stylistically intact building has a well-preserved exterior that forms part of a well-preserved late 19th-century facade wall with buildings in eclectic style.
