Inleiding
Het in 1882 in eclectische stijl gebouwde zes assen brede dubbele herenhuis behoort tot de oudste panden aan de Kornputsingel, waarvan de even zijde is gebouwd op de voormalige, in de jaren zeventig van de 19e eeuw geslechte stadswallen en waarvan de achterzijde grenst aan de stadsgracht en het grondgebied van de villa Rams Woerthe. Kornputsingel 44 vormt één geheel met het eveneens beschermde pand Kornputsingel 46
Omschrijving
Het vanuit een rechthoekige plattegrond opgetrokken pand heeft een souterrain en twee bouwlagen onder een met opnieuw verbeterde Hollandse pannen gedekt, afgeknot schilddak. De door middel van lisenen gelede voorgevel met zware, geprofileerde kroonlijst aan het entablement heeft gevelopeningen binnen profiellijsten met afgeronde bovenhoeken. De entree bevindt zich in de buitenste gevel-as en is voorzien van de originele paneeldeuren. De interieurs van beide woningen verkeren niet meer in originele staat. Nr. 44 heeft nog wel de oorspronkelijke paneeldeuren en vensters met vensterbanken en binnenluiken in de voorkamers van de suites in beide bouwlagen. De originele trap is voorzien van gesneden balusters.
Waardering
Het relatief sobere, maar stilistisch gave pand heeft een goed bewaard exterieur dat deel uitmaakt van een gave laat 19e-eeuwse gevelwand met panden in eclectische stijl. Deze vormen als bebouwing van de voormalige stadswallen en in samenhang met tuin en bebouwing van de villa Rams Woerthe een zeer waardevol stedebouwkundig geheel en hebben derhalve grote stedebouwkundige en ensemblewaarde; de gaafheid en stilistische verscheidenheid maken ze architectuur-historisch van belang.

Description
The building, erected from a rectangular floor plan, has a basement and two storeys under a hipped roof covered with newly improved Dutch tiles and topped. The front facade, articulated by means of pilasters with heavy, profiled cornice on the entablature, has openings within mouldings with rounded upper corners. The entrance is located in the outermost facade bay and is provided with the original panelled doors. The interiors of both dwellings are no longer in original condition. No. 44 still has the original panelled doors and windows with window sills and internal shutters in the front rooms of the suites on both storeys. The original staircase is provided with carved balusters.
