Omschrijving
Waardering
HISTORISCHE TUIN- EN PARKAANLEG van algemeen belang:
- vanwege de zeventiende-eeuwse singelstructuur;
- vanwege de achttiende-eeuwse lengteas gevormd door de oprijlaan en het 'grand canal';
- als representatief voorbeeld van een aanleg in landschapsstijl van de hand van Zocher (1828-1834);

Description
HISTORICAL GARDEN AND PARK LAYOUT.
The garden layout of Huis te Linschoten is situated within the moats, which form the boundary of the enclosed landscape park. Through vistas the surrounding landscape is incorporated into the layout. The castle is centrally located, its moat having been created together with the building in 1637. The formal layout, of which the approach road formed the axis, was modified in the first half of the nineteenth century in landscape style while retaining the formal structure (boundary and central axis). From the surveyor's map of 1633 it appears that the approach road, now the main axis of the layout, was already present before the construction of the house and led to the then farmer's farmstead. Parallel to the approach road planted with beeches is, on the west side, a row of hazels, behind which is the kitchen garden wall. Adjacent is the old rectangular kitchen garden adjoining the orchard. The axis of the approach road is continued outside the park section in the 'grand canal' with tree borders on both sides which likewise bound the round pond basin at the end (so-called 'pancake pan'). The sight line from the house over the grand canal was closed off around the end of the nineteenth century with a group of yew trees. A total design for the landscape park was made by J.D. Zocher and executed from 1828 to 1834. Two oval pond basins and the castle moat were excavated into a long serpentine water feature, which winds through the layout and narrows towards the west. The berceau from the formal layout, which connected the two ponds, is still present in overgrown condition. Around the water feature is a winding path with, among others, oaks, beeches, planes and chestnuts. Through tree felling the structure has become somewhat unclear. The southwest corner of the park is the most accidented section with two hills, one provided with an ice house. A small wooden bridge over the west moat lies in the extension of an oak lane that runs along a wooded section. Of the two sight axes planned by Zocher from the rear of the house one sight axis runs in a northwest direction and one in a northern direction towards Parkzicht. The latter, however, was not executed. The first vista has within the park section a green framing of yews and offers a fine view over the meadows towards the railway line - now the A12 -. Through the coulisse effect (undulating lines) it has gained depth and a 'dramatic' effect.
Valuation
HISTORICAL GARDEN AND PARK LAYOUT of general importance:
- on account of the seventeenth-century moat structure;
- on account of the eighteenth-century longitudinal axis formed by the approach road and the 'grand canal';
- as a representative example of a layout in landscape style by Zocher (1828-1834);
- on account of the functional-spatial coherence with the other components of the country estate.
