Omschrijving

Description
MAIN BUILDING (Huis te Linschoten).
Completely moated, block-shaped main building with the appearance of a medieval farmstead, originally dating from the second quarter of the seventeenth century, rebuilt in the second quarter of the eighteenth century. The building constructed on a square ground plan in red brick, of which the rear section is built higher than the front, consists of a basement and two storeys under a hipped roof covered with improved Dutch tiles, with two narrow corner towers with hip roofing at the front. The rear house dates from the first building phase in 1637 and is probably partly founded on the foundations of the farmstead. The cellars under the rear house are presumably sixth or early seventeenth century. The front house was rebuilt and raised in 1722, creating a piano nobile and a cellar. Under the bridge is the entrance to the cellar consisting of a vaulted wooden door in a stone surround from 1637 (originally the main entrance). The front is characterised by a symmetrically arranged five-window-bay-wide facade with centrally the entrance section set in sandstone mouldings in Louis XIV style, which beneath the roofline is crowned by an ornament with shell motif. The entrance section consists of a double panelled door with a semicircular fanlight with glazing bars and above it double glazed multi-light doors with a rectangular multi-light fanlight, which open onto a narrow balcony. In the roof section a dormer window with four paired windows. On either side of the entrance two window bays, the inner with cloister windows and the outer with cross windows. In the basement some or double cellar lights with shutters. The facade is flanked by two narrow towers, of which the lower section is square and the upper structure octagonal. The towers are crowned by a bell-shaped spire covered with slate and weathervanes. On the right tower a large slate sundial with the date 1647 is fitted. The remaining facades have various window types (multi-light sash windows, cross and bull's-eye windows). In the rear facade two dormer windows. Basement partly with seventeenth-century brick barrel vaults. In the INTERIOR of particular importance is the hall with roof light in Marot style (1721/22) furnished with the monograms of Jan Hendrik Strick and Johanna Antonia Bernard and the oak wooden spiral staircase from 1637. In the wall on either side of it round niches in which marble busts are placed. In the Great Hall a marble chimneypiece from ca. 1664, the floor has a painted block pattern. Two early nineteenth-century stone stoves, the so-called 'Zeist earthenware stoves'. Neogothic chimneypiece in the Salon and five simply decorated stucco ceilings designed by J.D. Zocher jr. - in the Salon a circular decoration and in the Blue Room a diamond pattern -. In the cellar is the kitchen with original chimneypiece and water tank/pump.
