Inleiding
De Rikmansbrug bij Fleringen is een van de vier ophaalbruggen over het in 1866 in gebruik genomen kanaal Almelo - Nordhorn, dat thans niet meer voor scheepvaart gebruikt wordt.
De andere drie bruggen zijn de Harseveldsbrug in Denekamp (mon.nr.: 12343), de Hun(n)ebrug bij Weerselo (mon.nr.: 38420) en de Reutumsebrug bij de dubbele schutsluis bij Reutum (mon.nr.: 35762).
De vier bruggen zijn in 1887 vervaardigd door D.A. Schretlen & Co. uit Leiden. Op alle bruggen is de afstand tot Almelo aangegeven.
Omschrijving
Ophaalbrug van aaneen geklonken platen van gewalst ijzer. Met baksteen beklede landhoofden met rondboog spaarvelden. Dubbelgeschoorde vollewands I-profielen als hameistijlen en opengewerkte hameisloof. Priemen uitgevoerd in vakwerk, aan valzijde verjongend en onderling verbonden door een windverband. De ballast wordt gevormd door twee I-profielen waartussen stenen blokken (kunnen) hangen. Heugelstang of trekketting ontbreken. Gelede hangstangen. Hamei verstevigd met vakwerk en voorzien van tekstplaat: "Rikmansbrug 10.000 m". Hameistijlen met meegegoten opschrift: "Cie. Belge Providence". Het handaangedreven bewegingswerk en het hekwerk zijn van later datum. Het als lier uitgevoerde bewegingswerk is buiten bedrijf, de geasfalteerde val is vastgezet.

The Rikmansbrug at Fleringen is one of four bascule bridges over the Almelo - Nordhorn canal, which came into use in 1866 and is now no longer used for shipping.
The other three bridges are the Harseveldsbrug in Denekamp (mon.nr.: 12343), the Hun(n)ebrug at Weerselo (mon.nr.: 38420) and the Reutumsebrug at the double lock at Reutum (mon.nr.: 35762).
The four bridges were manufactured in 1887 by D.A. Schretlen & Co. from Leiden. On all bridges the distance to Almelo is indicated.
Description
Bascule bridge of riveted sheets of rolled iron. Brick-clad abutments with round-arch spandrels. Double-struted full-web I-profile sections as hoist columns and open-work hoist frame. Struts executed in lattice work, tapering towards the falling side and interconnected by a wind bracing. The ballast is formed by two I-profiles between which stone blocks (may) hang. Pivot rod or traction chain absent. Jointed suspension rods. Hoist frame reinforced with lattice work and provided with nameplate: "Rikmansbrug 10.000 m". Hoist columns with cast-in inscription: "Cie. Belge Providence". The hand-operated drive mechanism and the railwork are of later date. The drive mechanism executed as a winch is out of service, the asphalted deck is locked in place.
