The register's description

Inleiding

Tweezijdig aangebouwd, direct aan de straat gelegen, bakstenen koetshuis, in 1851 gebouwd in ambachtelijk traditionele stijl.

Omschrijving

Introduction

Double-sided adjoining building, situated directly on the street, brick coach house, built in 1851 in craftsman-traditional style.

Description

Coach house of one-and-a-half storeys high on rectangular plan. The roof storey shows itself in the front and rear façades as a complete, low storey. Façades constructed of red brick in English bond, provided with natural stone window sills. The left part of the front façade contains a six-paned sash window and a service entrance with fanlight for the original coachman's dwelling. In the right part on the ground floor are two sets of double carriage doors. Behind one door there is still a wooden lattice gate present that when the doors were open closed off the carriage space. The frames are executed with slight moulding. On the upper storey in the middle a goods/hay door set and at both corners a four-paned fixed window with opening sash. Ground floor and upper storey are separated from each other by a brick string course. Between the service entrance and the wagon doors is a foundation stone in commemoration of the construction in 1851. In the rear façade in the carriage section are two six-paned sash windows and a back door, in the stable section four-paned windows with semi-circular fanlight and a door with fanlight. The building is provided with a gently sloping gabled roof, covered with weathered Spanish tiles.

The interior is largely original with among other things the completely paved carriage space, which is connected to the stable space located at the rear façade. This space has three horse stalls with finely carved wooden corner balusters, natural stone feed troughs of Ardennes stone in the wall above which hay racks of cast and wrought iron are present, which can be filled from the hay loft. In front of the stables, on the street side is a service entrance, which via a corridor provides access to the stables and a service room adjoining the front façade serving as changing room. The floor joists are provided with a strikingly heavy beam structure, partially executed as a composite beam layer.

The loft is accessible via a fixed staircase at the servant's dwelling and is divided by partition walls into two spaces. The left space originally communicated with the loft of the neighbouring coachman's house. The roof truss structure is provided with four 3-layer Philibert trusses. In 1896 the hay racks were replaced, the floor joists and Philibert trusses were reinforced and the stable section was re-paved.

Valuation

Coach house of general importance because of the intactness and rarity of the interior and the unity of exterior and interior; of ensemble value as an intact and functional component of the complex.
