Inleiding
De KASTEELBOERDERIJ VAN HET DWARSHUISTYPE dateert in oorsprong uit 1790 met bijbehorende houten PAARDESCHUUR uit 1881 en POMP uit 1894. De overige schuren en werkplaatsen op het erf van de kasteelboerderij zijn voor de bescherming van ondergeschikt belang.
Het dwarshuistype is op Twickel redelijk zeldzaam; behalve de kasteelboerderij zijn er alleen in de nabijheid van het huis enkele dienstwoningen van dit type. De kasteelboerderij heeft aan de achterzijde een op Engelse voorbeelden geïnspireerde decoratievewindveer. Het is goed mogelijk dat de Engelse architect W.S. Weatherley, onder wiens leiding het interieur van het huis Twickel tussen 1896 en 1916 is verbouwd, hier zijn visitekaartje heeft achtergelaten. Uit de correspondentie tussen de architect en baron van Heeckeren blijkt dat Weatherley in 1911 betrokken is geweest bij de verbouwing van de kasteelboerderij. De tekeningen zijn echter niet gemaakt door Weatherley, maar door een Nederlandse architect uit Arnhem. De boerderij is in 1947 verbouwd. Het interieur van de boerderij is sterk gewijzigd omdat in 1993 hier de rentmeesterij is ondergebracht. De paardeschuur is in 1938 verbouwd.
De boerderij ligt dichtbij het huis Twickel op een erf ten oosten van de Twickelerlaan. De voorgevel (Z) van de boerderij grenst aan de wei voor het huis en de west- en noordkant van het erf worden afgesloten door de bomenrijen langs de Twickelerlaan en het Bornsevoetpad.
De paardeschuur en de pomp staan op het erf aan de achterzijde van de boerderij. Het erf is deels bestraat met veldkeitjes.
Omschrijving
Grote BOERDERIJ VAN HET DWARSHUISTYPE waarvan de gevels boven een plintvan Bentheimer steen zijn opgetrokken in bruine baksteen. Het schilddak boven het woonhuis en het uitkragende zadeldak boven het bedrijfsgedeelte zijn beide met grijze Hollandse pannen gedekt. Het woonhuis heeft een geprofileerde gootlijst op klossen. De voorgevel van het woonhuisgedeelte (Z) heeft zes vensterassen met in de derde van links een deur onder achtruits bovenlicht. De vijf achtruits schuifvensters zijn afgehangen met luiken in de Twickelkleuren zwart en wit. Het keldervenster en het zesruits opkamervenster in de westgevel en het zesruitsvenster in de oostgevel zijn eveneens voorzien van Twickelluiken. In de zijgevels (O en W) van het bedrijfsgedeelte twaalfruits vensters en opgeklampte staldeuren. Aan de achtergevel van de boerderij (N) rust de sterk overstekende kap op korbelen. De windveren van het dak zijn in de top versierd met accoladevormige decoraties. De ronde vensters aan weerszijden van de baanderdeuren met stiepel onder rondboog hebben, evenals het hooiluik in de geveltop, een zandstenen lijst. De staldeuren in deze gevel hebben korfboogvormige strekken. Op de nok van het dak boven het woonhuis drie gemetselde schoorstenen. In het dakschild aan de voorzijde twee dakkapellen met waalfruits vensters onder overstekende schilddakjes.

Introduction
The CASTLE FARMHOUSE OF THE TRANSVERSE HOUSE TYPE dates originally from 1790 with an associated wooden HORSE BARN from 1881 and PUMP from 1894. The other barns and workshops on the farmhouse plot are of subordinate importance for protection purposes.
The transverse house type is fairly rare at Twickel; apart from the castle farmhouse, there are only a few service dwellings of this type in the vicinity of the house. The castle farmhouse has on its rear side a decorative roof ornament inspired by English examples. It is quite possible that the English architect W.S. Weatherley, under whose direction the interior of Twickel house was remodelled between 1896 and 1916, left his mark here. From correspondence between the architect and Baron van Heeckeren it appears that Weatherley was involved in 1911 with the remodelling of the castle farmhouse. The drawings were not made by Weatherley, however, but by a Dutch architect from Arnhem. The farmhouse was remodelled in 1947. The interior of the farmhouse has been substantially altered because the estate management office was housed here in 1993. The horse barn was remodelled in 1938.
The farmhouse is situated close to Twickel house on a plot to the east of Twickelerlaan. The front facade (S) of the farmhouse adjoins the meadow in front of the house, and the western and northern sides of the plot are enclosed by the rows of trees along Twickelerlaan and Bornsevoetpad.
The horse barn and the pump are situated on the plot at the rear of the farmhouse. The plot is partly paved with field cobbles.
Description
Large FARMHOUSE OF THE TRANSVERSE HOUSE TYPE with facades above a plinth of Bentheim stone built in brown brick. The hipped roof above the residential section and the projecting gabled roof above the farm section are both covered with grey Dutch tiles. The residential house has a moulded drip moulding on corbels. The front facade of the residential section (S) has six window bays with, in the third from the left, a door with a fanlight of cross-paned glass. The five cross-paned sash windows are fitted with shutters in the Twickel colours black and white. The basement window and the six-paned upper chamber window in the west facade and the six-paned window in the east facade are likewise provided with Twickel shutters. In the side facades (E and W) of the farm section twelve-paned windows and clamped stable doors. At the rear facade of the farmhouse (N) the strongly projecting roof rests on corbels. The roof ornaments at the peak are decorated with accolade-shaped ornaments. The round windows on either side of the barn doors with a stepping beneath a round arch have, as does the hay opening in the gable top, a sandstone surround. The stable doors in this facade have basket-arch shaped openings. On the ridge of the roof above the residential house three brick chimneys. In the roof slope at the front two dormer windows with cross-paned windows beneath projecting hipped roof caps.
