Inleiding
WOONHUIS met een gevel uit circa 1880 in eclectische stijl. De kern is waarschijnlijk ouder (XVII): in 1979 heeft het pand een restauratie ondergaan waarbij oude constructies in het huis aangetroffen werden. Het pand ligt aan de Dorpsstraat, in de bocht waar zich de Kromstraat afsplitst, in de oude kern van Veldhoven. Het huis heeft lange tijd gefungeerd als notarishuis.
Omschrijving
Tweelaags pand op een rechthoekige plattegrond onder een schilddak waarvan de nok haaks op de straat staat. Het dak is gedekt met oud Hollandse pannen. De voorgevel is drie traveeën breed, de zijgevel telt vijf traveeën. Beide gevels zijn gepleisterd en voorzien van geblokt gepleisterde pilasters welke de gevel verticaal, per travee, geleden. De consoles aan de bovenkant van de pilasters, ondersteunen de gootlijst. Het middengedeelte van de voorgevel is als geheel geblokt gepleisterd. Erboven bevindt zich een topgevel die bij de restauratie in circa 1980 is aangebracht. De ingangen, zowel in de voor- als in de zijgevel, bestaan uitpaneeldeuren met gietijzeren roosters. In het bovenlicht van de deur is in glas-in-lood een (modern) landschapje aangebracht. De deuren en T-ramen zijn gevat in een gepleisterde geprofileerde omlijsting met kuiven. In het interieur is de indeling in grote lijnen bewaard gebleven. Eén gang doorsnijdt het huis van voor tot achter, een tweede gang staat daar haaks op en komt bij de zijingang uit. Links van de centrale gang bevinden zich aan de voorkant van het pand een kamer met opkamer, daarachter ligt een kamer-en-suite. Rechts van de gang is onder andere een keuken met schouw op de oorspronkelijke plaats aanwezig. Ook in de inrichting zijn elementen uit oudere bouwfasen bewaard gebleven. In de kamers rechts van de gang zijn de oude balkconstructies zichtbaar, aan de linkerkant zijn negentiende eeuwse stucplafonds met rozetten in het midden, hoekdekoraties en eenvoudige lijsten aangebracht. De gang heeft een vloer van marmeren tegels, in de keuken liggen cementtegels met bloemmotief. Verder zijn onder andere van belang de paneeldeuren alsmede de houten omlijstingen met panelen en vensterbanken rond de ramen. In de hal op de verdieping bevindt zich een licht in het plafond naar de zolder gevormd door een rond roosvenster met gekleurd glas. Het huis heeft een dubbele zolder.
Aan de straatzijde wordt het pand omringd door natuurstenen platen (mogelijk oude grafzerken). Aan de achterzijde bevindt zich een (nieuwingerichte) tuin.
Waardering
Het pand is van bouwhistorisch belang vanwege de ouderdom. Als notabelenwoning is het karakteristiek voor een oude dorpskern en heeft het pand cultuurhistorische waarde.

DWELLING HOUSE with a facade dating from circa 1880 in eclectic style. The core is probably older (17th century): in 1979 the building underwent restoration during which old structures were found in the house. The building is situated on the Dorpsstraat, at the bend where the Kromstraat branches off, in the old centre of Veldhoven. The house has long served as a notary's house.
Description
Two-storey building on a rectangular floor plan under a hipped roof with the ridge perpendicular to the street. The roof is covered with old Dutch tiles. The front facade is three bays wide, the side facade has five bays. Both facades are rendered and provided with rusticated rendered pilasters which divide the facade vertically, per bay. The consoles at the top of the pilasters support the cornice. The central section of the front facade is rusticated rendered as a whole. Above it is a gable which was added during the restoration around 1980. The entrances, both in the front and side facade, consist of panel doors with cast-iron grilles. In the fanlight of the door a (modern) small landscape in stained glass has been inserted. The doors and T-windows are set in a rendered moulded surround with decorative hood. In the interior the layout has been preserved in its broad outline. One corridor runs through the house from front to back, a second corridor is perpendicular to it and leads out to the side entrance. To the left of the central corridor are located at the front of the building a room with an additional room, behind it lies a through room. To the right of the corridor is among other things a kitchen with a fireplace in its original location. Elements from older building phases have also been preserved in the furnishings. In the rooms to the right of the corridor the old timber structures are visible, on the left side are nineteenth-century stucco ceilings with rosettes in the middle, corner decorations and simple mouldings. The corridor has a floor of marble tiles, in the kitchen lie cement tiles with flower motifs. Also of importance are among other things the panel doors as well as the wooden surrounds with panels and window sills around the windows. In the hall on the upper storey is a light in the ceiling to the loft formed by a round grille window with coloured glass. The house has a double loft.
On the street side the building is surrounded by stone slabs (possibly old gravestones). On the rear side there is a (recently laid out) garden.
Valuation
The building is of architectural-historical importance because of its age. As a notable's residence it is characteristic of an old village centre and the building has cultural-historical value.
