Inleiding
Blok van twaalf WONINGEN (13) dat in 1889 is gebouwd in opdracht van Graaf van Rechteren Limpurg als bejaardenwoningen voor het personeel van het nabijgelegen Huis Almelo. Het blok woningen staat in de nabijheid van de Grote Kerk ten noorden van de gracht die het terrein rond Huis Almelo aan de westzijde afsluit. In verband met de functie van woon-werkruimtes voor kunstenaars zijn de twaalf woningen gedeeltelijk samengevoegd en inwendig sterk gewijzigd.
Omschrijving
Pand van één bouwlaag op langgerekt rechthoekig grondplan onder een met zwarte bouletpannen gedekt zadeldak. De gevels zijn boven een plint van Bentheimer steen opgetrokken in bruine baksteen. De hoeklisenen zijn opgebouwd uit zandstenen blokken. De voorgevel (Z) is regelmatig ingedeeld met twaalf deuren onder bovenlicht afgewisseld met zesruits schuifvensters. De strekken en de doorlopende sierband ter hoogte van de wisseldorpels zijn gemetseld in gele verblendsteen. In de geveltoppen van de zijgevels (O en W) trekbalken onder de makelaars op de nokken. De segmentbogen boven de zesruits vensters en de laadddeuren in de zijgevels zijn gemetseld in gele verblendsteen, de boogtrommels zijn gevuld met metselmozaïeken van rode en gele baksteen. Op de gevelstenen in deze gevels staat de tekst "Heerengracht 1898". De indeling van de achtergevel (N) verraadt de aanwezigheid van een verdieping aan de achterkant van het gebouw.

Introduction
Block of twelve DWELLINGS (13) built in 1889 commissioned by the Count van Rechteren Limpurg as retirement homes for the staff of the nearby Huis Almelo. The block of dwellings is situated in the vicinity of the Grote Kerk to the north of the canal that closes off the grounds around Huis Almelo on the west side. In connection with the function of live-work spaces for artists, the twelve dwellings have been partially combined and substantially altered internally.
Description
Building of one storey on an elongated rectangular ground plan under a gabled roof covered with black boulet tiles. The facades are constructed above a plinth of Bentheimer stone in brown brick. The corner pilasters are built up from blocks of sandstone. The front facade (S) is regularly laid out with twelve doors under fanlights alternating with six-pane sash windows. The horizontal courses and the continuous decorative band at the height of the alternating lintels are mortared in yellow facing brick. In the gable tops of the side facades (E and W) tie-beams under the wall plates on the ridge boards. The segmental arches above the six-pane windows and the loading doors in the side facades are mortared in yellow facing brick, the arch drums are filled with tile mosaics of red and yellow brick. On the facade stones in these facades the text reads "Heerengracht 1898". The arrangement of the rear facade (N) reveals the presence of a storey at the back of the building.
Each dwelling has on the ground floor a rear door between two windows and above it a larger window between two smaller ones. The roof dormers in the roof slope on the front are fitted with loading doors and hoisting beams.
