Omschrijving onderdeel 49:
IJSKELDER behorende tot de buitenplaats Twickel.
Dubbele ijskelder bestaande uit twee naast elkaar gelegen gemetselde koepelgewelven onder een kunstmatige heuvel samengebracht. Een natuurstenen trap leidt naar de twee bakstenen ingangspartijen met deuren onder segmentbogen. Boven de linker ingang staat het jaartal 1906, wat waarschijnlijk alleen op de bouw van de ingangspartij slaat. De beide ingangen van de ijskelder worden gevormd uit een portaal met tongewelf opgedeeld in twee compartimenten die oorspronkelijk waren afgesloten met drie deuren. Aan het einde van de portalen de vulluiken van de ronde kelders. Op grond van een bewaard gebleven rekening zouden de kelders gedateerd kunnen worden op ca.1840. De ingangspartij werd in ca.1990 gerestaureerd.

Description of component 49:
ICE CELLAR belonging to the country house Twickel.
Double ice cellar consisting of two adjacent brick barrel vaults brought together under an artificial hill. A natural stone staircase leads to the two brick entrance sections with doors under segmental arches. Above the left entrance stands the date 1906, which probably refers only to the construction of the entrance section. Both entrances to the ice cellar are formed by a barrel-vaulted portali divided into two compartments which were originally closed with three doors. At the end of the portals the filling hatches of the round cellars. On the basis of a preserved bill, the cellars could be dated to around 1840. The entrance section was restored around 1990.
Valuation:
ICE CELLAR of general importance - because of its age; - because of the unique typology in the Netherlands of the double ice cellar; - because of its ensemble value in connection with the garden around the castle; - because of its relatively high degree of intactness.
