Omschrijving
POORTGEBOUW met aangebouwd KOETSHUIS behorende bij de buitenplaats Rhijnestein en toegang tot de voorburcht en het huis, in kern daterend uit de veertiende-eeuw. In baksteen opgetrokken asymmetrisch poortgebouw op rechthoekige plattegrond onder samengesteld met zwarte en rode Hollandse pannen gedekt dak bestaande uit een centrale poort, met inwendige vlakke houten zoldering, en verdieping en duivenzolder; in later tijd aan de rechterzijde uitgebreid met een traptoren onder een haaks geplaatst zadeldak met kleine trapgevel en aanbouw (dienstwoning) onder zadeldak met trapgevel. Aan de linkerzijde een aanbouw (schuur, later dienstwoning en koetshuis) onder een haaks tegen het poortgebouw geplaatst licht geknikt zadeldak eindigend in een trapgevel. Trapgevels met hardstenen afdekplaten. Tegen de voorgevel bevinden zich aan weerszijden van de doorgang twee forse steunberen. Recht gesloten entree met dubbele houten deuren onder een latei. In de gevel verschillende bouwsporen, onder meer boven de latei een segmentboog, op de verdiepingen segmentbogen en bouwnaden bij aansluiting van de rechter aanbouw. Boven de poort op de verdieping een groot twaalfdelig venster met natuurstenen omlijsting. Aan de achterzijde een rondboogdoorgang, de trapgevel aan deze zijde is bij de restauratie in 1989-90 teruggebracht. De linkeraanbouw met woning en koetshuis heeft aan de zijde van de toegangsweg twee kleine vensteropeningen met luiken en is verder gesloten. In de gevel aan de voorburcht twee entreedeuren waartussen zich een pomp bevindt en twee openslaande deuren, in de kopse gevel bevinden zich links de inrijdeuren. Het poortgebouw is in 1989-90 ingrijpend gerestaureerd, waarbij wijzigingen hebben plaatsgevonden.

GATEHOUSE with attached COACH HOUSE belonging to the country estate Rhijnestein and access to the outer courtyard and the house, with a core dating from the fourteenth century. Built in brick, asymmetrical gatehouse on rectangular plan covered with a roof clad in black and red Dutch tiles, consisting of a central gate with internal flat wooden ceiling, first storey and dovecot; at a later date extended on the right side with a staircase tower under a perpendicularly placed gabled roof with small stepped gable and extension (servants' quarters) under gabled roof with stepped gable. On the left side an extension (barn, later servants' quarters and coach house) under a perpendicularly placed slightly curved gabled roof ending in a stepped gable. Stepped gables with hardstone coping. Against the front facade on either side of the passage are two substantial buttresses. Straight closed entrance with double wooden doors under a lintel. Various building traces in the facade, including above the lintel a segmental arch, on the storeys segmental arches and building seams at the junction of the right extension. Above the gate on the first storey a large twelve-light window with natural stone surround. On the rear side a round-arched passage; the stepped gable on this side was restored to its original form during the 1989-90 restoration. The left extension with accommodation and coach house has two small window openings with shutters on the side of the access road and is otherwise closed. In the facade facing the outer courtyard two entrance doors with a pump between them and two open doors; in the gable wall on the left are the carriage entrance doors. The gatehouse underwent major restoration in 1989-90, during which modifications were made.
