Omschrijving
LIJKEN- EN SCHIJNDODENHUIS, gebouwd in 1874 in eclectisch-classicistische trant naar ontwerp van Thomas Romein. Dienstgebouw op rechthoekige plattegrond, opgetrokken uit gepleisterde baksteen op even uitgemetselde plint en plat afgedekt; doorgaande verkropte waterlijst. De beide aedicula-vormige hoekpartijen van de voorgevel worden benadrukt door pilasters met verdiepte velden, die uitlopen in (oorspronkelijk door palmetvormige, vermoedelijk zinken acroteria bekroonde) loze tympanen met geprofileerde lijst. Links en rechts een opgeklampte toegangsdeur met ijzeren sierbeslag; daartussen twee halve lichtgetoogde vensters met gietijzeren roosters en natuurstenen strekken en afzaten. In de linkerzijgevel lichtgetoogde (niet oorspronkelijke) dubbele houten deuren; natuurstenen sluitsteen; in de rechterzijgevel een (thans dichtgezet) raam; in de achtergevels vier vensters als in de voorgevel. Het INTERIEUR is in twee ruimten verdeeld; de vloer is met bakstenen belegd.

Description
MORTUARY AND WAITING MORTUARY, built in 1874 in eclectic-classicistic style after a design by Thomas Romein. Service building on rectangular plan, erected from plastered brick on similarly masoned plinth and with flat roof; continuous coved drip moulding. The two aedicula-shaped corner sections of the front facade are emphasized by pilasters with recessed fields, terminating in (originally topped with palmette-shaped, presumably zinc acroteria) empty tympana with profiled moulding. On the left and right a clamped entrance door with iron ornamental ironwork; between them two half-arched windows with cast-iron grilles and natural stone lintels and sills. In the left side facade arched (not original) double wooden doors; natural stone keystone; in the right side facade a (now bricked up) window; in the rear facades four windows as in the front facade. The INTERIOR is divided into two spaces; the floor is paved with bricks.
