Inleiding
In een traditionele bouwstijl in 1913 gebouwd STATIONSGEBOUW. Het ontwerp wordt toegeschreven aan architect G.W. van Heukelom. Het betreft een van de stations die tussen 1912 en 1914 werden gebouwd langs de spoorlijn Heerlen-Schin op Geul. Het station is gesitueerd op een Y-splitsing van spoorlijnen.
Omschrijving
Het stationsgebouw heeft een in lengterichting geplaatste veelhoekige plattegrond, telt een deels twee bouwlagen en wordt afgedekt met gewelfde daken met breed dakoverstek. Dakoverstek rustend op houten consoles. Smeedijzeren nokpionnen. De daken zijn gedekt met leien in maasdekking. Twee hoogoplopende schoorstenen en een drietal dakkapellen met schilddakjes met leien en nokpionnen.
Het toegepaste bouwmateriaal is baksteen, hardsteen en Kunradersteen. Rechthoekige houten deuren en vensters met rechthoekige en rondboogvormige bovenlichten met kleine roedeverdeling.
Stationsgebouw met asymmetrische gevelindeling. De hoofdmassa telt twee bouwlagen. Plint in Kunradersteen. In rechterdeel voorgevel in de eerste bouwlaag een erker met leien schilddak met hierboven een tegeltableau met hierin de naam Schin op Geul. Vensters met hardstenen lateien met uitzondering van bovenlicht deur in middendeel voorgevel: hier geboogde strek in baksteen met hardstenen aanzetstenen en sluitsteen. Aan linkerzijgevel uitbouw in een bouwlaag met plat dak met hierop een balkon met bakstenen balustrade tussen baksten kolommen. Aan de linkerzijgevek van deze uitbouw een kleine erkerachtige uitbouw in een bouwlaag met leien schilddak. Linkerdeel achtergevel vooruitspringend met in de eerste bouwlaag houten poort met een luifel op houten consoles. Luifel gedekt met leien. Boven deze luifel een tegeltableau met hierin de naam Schin op Geul. In rechterdeel achtergevel deuren met bovenlichten met rondboogvormige strek in baksteen met hardstenen aanzet- en sluitstenen. Van het INTERIEUR is van belang: in de vml. wachtkamer 1e klasse o.m. de authentieke houten zitbanken, houten lambrizering en houten balkenplafond op consoles, houten schoorsteenmantel met achterwand deels bekleedt met geglazuurde baksteen.
Waardering
Het stationsgebouw van Schin op Geul bezit cultuurhistorische waarden als bijzondere uitdrukking van een sociaal-economische en typologische ontwikkeling. Architectuurhistorische waarden ontleent het stationsgebouw aan de hoogwaardige esthetische kwaliteiten van het ontwerp, het bijzondere materiaalgebruik, en de ornamentiek. Ensemblewaarde bezit het stationsgebouw als essentieel onderdeel van het spoorlijntraject Heerlen-Schin op Geul in het glooiende landschap van Zuid-Limburg met diverse stationsgebouwen en kunstwerken en als geheel van bijzondere cultuurhistorische en architectuurhistorische waarde. Het stationsgebouw is tevens van bijzondere betekenis wegens de situering en daarmee verbonden met de ontwikkeling van de streek en van belang voor het aanzien van de kern Schin op Geul. Het stationsgebouw is tenslotte van belang wegens de architectonische gaafheid van het exterieur en een deel van het interieur, wegens het belang van het object in relatie tot de structurele en visuele gaafheid van de landschappelijke omgeving, en de architectuurhistorische, typologische en functionele zeldzaamheid.

Description
The station building has a polygonal floor plan placed lengthwise, comprises partly two storeys and is covered with barrel vaults with broad roof overhang. Roof overhang resting on wooden consoles. Wrought iron ridge finials. The roofs are covered with slate in Maas covering. Two high-rising chimneys and three roof dormers with half-hipped rooflets with slate and ridge finials.
The building materials used are brick, dressed stone and Kunrader stone. Rectangular wooden doors and windows with rectangular and round arch fanlights with small glazing bars.
Station building with asymmetrical facade arrangement. The main mass comprises two storeys. Plinth in Kunrader stone. In the right part of front facade in the first storey a bay window with slate hipped roof with above it a tile tableau bearing the name Schin op Geul. Windows with dressed stone lintels with the exception of fanlight door in central section of front facade: here arched arch in brick with dressed stone springers and keystone. On left side facade extension in one storey with flat roof with above it a balcony with brick balustrade between brick columns. On the left side facade of this extension a small bay-like extension in one storey with slate hipped roof. Left part of rear facade projecting forward with in the first storey a wooden gate with a canopy on wooden consoles. Canopy covered with slate. Above this canopy a tile tableau bearing the name Schin op Geul. In right part of rear facade doors with fanlights with round arch arch in brick with dressed stone springers and keystones. Of importance from the INTERIOR: in the former first-class waiting room inter alia the authentic wooden benches, wooden wall panelling and wooden beam ceiling on consoles, wooden fireplace mantel with rear panel partly covered with glazed brick.
