Inleiding
In Functionalistische bouwstijl in 1929 en 1932 naar een ontwerp van F.P.J. Peutz in opdracht van dhr. Hardy gebouwd dubbel HERENHUIS genaamd "Casa Blanca".
Het oorspronkelijke ontwerp voor het herenhuis Casa Blanca dateert uit 1929. Het eerste Casa Blanca was het huidige westelijke pand nr. 72. Het oostelijke pand nr. 70 is een latere toevoeging uit 1932.
Omschrijving:
Het dubbel herenhuis heeft een in de lengterichting geplaatste rechthoekige plattegrond, telt twee deels drie bouwlagen en wordt afgedekt met een plat dak. Dakterrassen. Het toegepaste bouwmateriaal is wit gepleisterde baksteen.
Vrijwel symmetrische indeling frontgevel. Rechthoekige houten vensters en deuren. Glas-in-lood vensters bij de terrassen in de 2e bouwlaag en de dakverdieping. Middendeel frontgevel licht vooruitspringend en uitlopend in een doorlopend geveldeel. In dit deel in de eerste bouwlaag linkerzijde een erker met plat dak. Deuren onder luifels. Sobere geveldecoraties.
Deur nr. 72 geflankeerd door smalle glas-in-lood venstertjes. Naast de deur een bolornament. Boven de deur een open luifel. Garagepoort van recentere datum. Schoorsteenkanaal pand nr. 72 evenwijdig aan linkerzijgevel.
Deur pand nr. 70 onder een gesloten luifel. Naast de deur eveneens een bolornament. Schoorsteenkanaal pand nr. 70 haaks op de rechterzijgevel.
Aan de achtergevel van pand nr. 70 een originele glazen luifel op stalen consoles.
De indeling van het INTERIEUR van beide panden is redelijk intact, overigens niet beschermenswaardig.
Waardering:
Het dubbel herenhuis Sint Gerlach 70 en 72 is van cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een typologische ontwikkeling en wegens de innovatieve waarde en het pionierskarakter van het functionalistische ontwerp. Het dubbel herenhuis bezit architectuurhistorische waarde vanwege het bijzondere belang voor de geschiedenis van de architectuur, voor het oeuvre van architect F.P.J.
