Inleiding
In een traditioneel-ambachtelijke stijl, deels in de 18e en deels in 19e eeuw gebouwde GESLOTEN KASTEELBOERDERIJ. De boerderij is zeer markant gesitueerd op de noordelijke helling van het Geuldal tussen de kernen Meerssen en Ulestraten op de zogenaamde Wijngaardsberg. De aanbouw van recentere datum aan de linkerzijgevel is uitgesloten van bescherming, evenals de bijbouwen van recentere datum.
Omschrijving
De om een binnenplaats gelegen bebouwing bestaat uit drie vleugels, de vierde vleugel vormde tot ca. 1945 een neogotisch landhuis met kasteelachtige allure. Slechts een restant van de binnenplaatsgevel van het landhuis is nog aanwezig. Het gesloten karakter van de binnenplaats blijft hierdoor aanwezig. Van het landhuis resteren onder het maaiveld nog enkele kelderruimten. Op de hoek van het voormalige terras staat het restant van een rond torentje. Ter plaatse van het voormalige landhuis resteert tevens nog een erfafscheiding in de vorm van een bakstenen muur met ezelsrug. Van de drie boerderijvleugels bevat de westelijke vleugel het uit twee bouwlagen met zadeldak bestaande woonhuis, voorzien van segmentboogvensters. Het toegepaste bouwmateriaal is baksteen, Naamse steen en mergel. De deuromlijstingen zijn van Naamse steen. De vensteromlijstingen zijn uitgevoerd in mergel met uitzondering van een venster dat is voorzien van een cementering.
Alle goten rusten op een uitkragende bakstenen lijst op consoles van mergel. Deze lijst wordt bij de trapgevels doorgezet en volgt de dakhelling. Opvallend is dat deze gootlijst de welving van de bovendorpels volgt. De buitengevel bevat in het midden een getrapte topgevel. De plaats van deze topgevel wordt geaccentueerd door lisenen. Het noordelijk deel van de vleugel bevat een brede poort. Naast de poort bevindt zich een recent aangebrachte steen met opschrift:" HORSMANS V. HEEL WIJNGAARDSBERG". De oeil-de-boeuf- vensters van de bedrijfsgebouwen zijn uitgevoerd in mergel. De noordelijke trapgevel bevat treden die uitgekraagd zijn op een kraagsteentje van mergel, dit in tegenstelling tot de overige trapgevels van het complex, zij bevatten twee kraagsteentjes per trap. De noordelijke vleugel van een bouwlaag met schilddak, bevat twee vensters omlijst met mergel en een deur omlijst met Naamse steen. De oostelijke vleugel bevat een bouwlaag met een verdieping, afgedekt door een zadeldak. Het midden van de binnenplaatsgevel wordt gevormd door een trapgevel, ten noorden daarvan stallen en ten zuiden de (voormalige) berging en het koetshuis en een dichtgemetselde poort. Waardering
De voormalige kasteelboerderij Wijngaardsberg is van cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een sociaal-economische en typologische ontwikkeling. De boerderij bezit architectuurhistorische waarde wegens het bijzondere belang van het object voor de regionale geschiedenis van de architectuur, de hoogwaardige esthetische kwaliteiten van het ontwerp, het bijzondere materiaalgebruik en de ornamentiek. Ensemblewaarde ontleent de boerderij aan haar markante situering op de Wijngaardsberg. De kasteelboerderij is tevens van bijzondere betekenis voor het aanzien van dit deel van de gemeente Meerssen. Het object is tenslotte van algemeen belang wegens de redelijke mate van architectonische gaafheid van het exterieur en de zeldzaamheid.

Introduction
A CLOSED CASTLE FARMHOUSE built partly in the 18th and partly in the 19th century in a traditional-artisanal style. The farmhouse is very distinctively situated on the northern slope of the Geuldal valley between the communities of Meerssen and Ulestraten on the so-called Wijngaardsberg. The extension of more recent date on the left-hand gable is excluded from protection, as are the outbuildings of more recent date.
Description
The buildings arranged around a courtyard consist of three wings; the fourth wing formed until circa 1945 a neo-Gothic country house with castle-like character. Only a remnant of the courtyard facade of the country house remains. The closed character of the courtyard is thereby preserved. Below ground level some cellar rooms of the country house remain. On the corner of the former terrace stands the remnant of a round little tower. At the location of the former country house there also remains an enclosure in the form of a brick wall with a rounded back. Of the three farmhouse wings, the western wing contains the two-storey dwelling house with gabled roof, provided with segmental arch windows. The building material used is brick, Naamse stone and marl. The door surrounds are of Naamse stone. The window surrounds are executed in marl with the exception of one window which is provided with a cement frame.
All gutters rest on a projecting brick moulding on marl corbels. This moulding is continued at the stepped gables and follows the roof slope. Striking is that this gutter moulding follows the curve of the upper dormer sills. The outer facade contains in the centre a stepped top gable. The position of this top gable is accentuated by pilasters. The northern part of the wing contains a broad gateway. Next to the gateway is a recently added stone with inscription: "HORSMANS V. HEEL WIJNGAARDSBERG". The round bull's-eye windows of the farm buildings are executed in marl. The northern stepped gable contains steps that are corbelled on a small marl corbel, in contrast to the other stepped gables of the complex, which contain two corbels per step. The northern wing of one storey with hipped roof contains two windows framed in marl and a door framed in Naamse stone. The eastern wing contains one storey with an upper floor, topped by a gabled roof. The centre of the courtyard facade is formed by a stepped gable, to the north of it stalls and to the south the (former) storage room and coach house and a bricked-up gateway. The outer facade is also divided into two by a stepped gable.
Valuation
The former castle farmhouse Wijngaardsberg is of cultural-historical value as a particular expression of a socio-economic and typological development. The farmhouse possesses architectural-historical value because of the particular importance of the object for the regional history of architecture, the high-quality aesthetic qualities of the design, the particular use of materials and the ornamentation. Ensemble value is derived from the farmhouse by its distinctive location on the Wijngaardsberg. The castle farmhouse is furthermore of particular significance for the appearance of this part of the municipality of Meerssen. The object is finally of general importance because of the reasonable degree of architectural integrity of the exterior and its rarity.
