The register's description

Inleiding

Introduction

A detached VICAR'S HOUSE built around 1850 with elements of Eclecticism, known as "Old Vicarage". The building is situated on gently sloping terrain.

The building is located in the immediate vicinity of the Reformed church, a so-called Leopold church, which already enjoys national monument protection.

A low practice room has been built against the left side gable, which is excluded from protection.

Description

The residence has a rectangular plan placed lengthwise, comprises two storeys and is covered by a gabled roof with hipped tilework. The former vicar's house has a plastered and whitewashed front gable consisting of five irregular window bays. Ashlar blocks have been applied in the plaster: the plinth has a terminating moulding. The windows have profiled mouldings executed in plaster. On the first storey the windows have segmental arch fanlights and hardstone sill stones; on the second storey the windows have rectangular fanlights and likewise hardstone sill stones. The rectangular richly profiled wooden door has a hardstone surround. The entrance is emphasized by an open portico on wooden columns. This is a later addition. On the raking soffit of the canopy the name of the building is displayed. The left side gable is plastered and limewashed; the right side gable is not. The austere rear gavel contains seven regular window bays. Two windows on the ground floor have been altered here.

Valuation

This former vicar's house is of supra-regional cultural-historical importance as a distinctive expression of a spiritual development, and because of its relationship with the adjacent Reformed church. The building possesses regional architectural-historical value because of the aesthetic quality of the design and the applied ornamental work. This residence derives ensemble value from its fine setting. The building is finally of general importance on the basis of the architectural integrity of its exterior and its supra-regional rarity.
