Inleiding
KLOOSTER in traditionele bouwstijl, 1923, een ontwerp van architect Ir. W.A. Molengraaff (pater Everardus van het klooster Damianeum te Simpelveld). Het klooster werd gebouwd in opdracht van de Missiezusters van de Oblaten van O.L.V. Assumptie. Omstreeks 1974 werd tegen de achtergevel een liftschacht gebouwd. De in de kloostertuin gebouwde kleine Lourdesgrot is voor de bescherming van ondergeschikt belang.
Omschrijving
Het vrijstaand klooster heeft een H-vormige plattegrond, telt twee bouwlagen en wordt gedekt door zadeldaken met Tuiles du Nord.
Gootklossen. Vijf dakkapellen.
De toegepaste bouwmaterialen zijn baksteen (achtergevel) en Kunrader steen (voor- en zijgevels). Spitsboogvormige vensters met bovenlichten; spitsboogvormige glas-in-lood kapelvensters; rechthoekige houten deuren met spitsboogvormige bovenlichten.
Het vrijstaande gebouw heeft een frontgevel met symmetrische indeling.
Rechter en linker deel van de frontgevel vooruitspringend en uitlopend in trapgevels, bekroond met kruisen. Trappen gedekt met natuursteen. In de oksel van vooruitspringende linker geveldeel en overige frontgevel een toren met kegelvormig bitumen dak. Gevels met baksteendecoraties. De entree in het middendeel van de frontgevel bestaat uit een klein portaal met zadeldak en spitsboogvormige toegang. In dit portaal een tegelvloer met tegels waarin blad- en stermotieven.
Van de achtergevel is enkel het kapelgedeelte met natuursteen bekleed.
Aan het middendeel van de achtergevel een uitbouw in baksteen van twee-en-een-halve bouwlaag met plat dak en kantelen.
Ommuring in Kunrader steen met kleine kunststeen kolommen.
In het INTERIEUR is van belang de kloosterkapel met een sobere inrichting: pilasters met rozetversiering; authentieke houten koorbanken; neo-gotisch houten altaar; glas in lood vensters uit 1952 en 1953 van Atelier Louis Van der Essen en Zoon te Roermond; houten biechtstoel.
Waardering
Het klooster is van cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een geestelijke ontwikkeling. Het object bezit architectuurhistorische waarden vanwege de bouwstijl, het streekgebonden materiaalgebruik, de ornamentiek en de esthetische kwaliteit van het ontwerp. Ensemblewaarde ontleent het object aan de situering op een enigszins verhoogd perceel aan de Schoolstraat en is daarmee van betekenis voor het aanzien van Hulsberg. Het klooster is van belang wegens de architectonische gaafheid van exterieur en enkele interieuronderdelen en beschikt in regionaal perspectief over architectuurhistorische zeldzaamheidswaarden.

CONVENT in traditional building style, 1923, a design by architect Ir. W.A. Molengraaff (Father Everardus of the convent Damianeum in Simpelveld). The detached building has a front facade with symmetrical layout.
Right and left sections of the front facade projecting and ending in stepped gables, crowned with crosses. Stairs covered with natural stone. In the angle between the projecting left facade section and the remainder of the front facade a tower with conical bitumen roof. Facades with brick decorations. The entrance in the central section of the front facade consists of a small portal with gabled roof and pointed arch entrance. In this portal a tiled floor with tiles featuring leaf and star motifs.
Only the chapel section of the rear facade is clad with natural stone.
At the central section of the rear facade an extension in brick of two-and-a-half storeys with flat roof and crenellations.

In the INTERIOR the convent chapel is noteworthy with a plain interior: pilasters with rosette decoration; authentic wooden choir benches; neo-Gothic wooden altar; stained glass windows from 1952 and 1953 by Atelier Louis Van der Essen en Zoon in Roermond; wooden confessional.

The convent is of cultural-historical value as a remarkable expression of a spiritual development.
