Inleiding
Neo-romaanse KATHOLIEKE KERK van de H.Clemens te Hulsberg, 1908-1930, een ontwerp van de architecten Jan Stuyt en Jos. Cuypers. In 1908 werd de uit 1820 daterende oude kerk door Jan Stuyt uitgebreid met het huidige priesterkoor en twee sacristie-ruimten. In 1930 werd het schip van de kerk vanaf de transeptboog vernieuwd naar een ontwerp van Jos. Cuypers. Aannemer G.J. Ruiters te Kerkrade voerde dit werk uit.
Het kerkgebouw is dominant gesitueerd op een kerkheuvel en wordt grotendeels omgeven is door een kerkhofmuur met hekwerk uit 1933.
Omschrijving
De R.K. Kerk van de H. Clemens is een kruiskerk met zijbeuken onder zaagdaken. Het geheel wordt gedekt door zadel- en schilddaken met leien. Ingesnoerde torenspits met koperbedekking en een reeks kleine vensters, spits bekroond door kruis en windhaan. Dakruiter op kruising van middenschip en kruisarmen. Uitbouw aan de absis met klokvormig torentje. Dakkapellen. Bakgoten op consoles.
Het schip wordt voorafgegaan door een toren met voorportaal. Dit voorportaal heeft een fronton en wordt geflankeerd door twee zijkapellen. Driekante absis, uitbouwen onder schilddaken aan de kruisarmen.
De kerk heeft een gewapend betonnen fundering. Het schip heeft een ijzeren spantconstructie. Optrek in veldovensteen met hardstenen en ongeglazuurde keramische dorpels, natuurstenen aanzet- en sluitstenen in de vensterlijsten, mergel kroonlijsten in de zijbeuken. Geprofileerde deurlijsten in de kruisarmen en de zijkapellen. Rondboogvormige- en segmentboogvormige stalen kozijnen met glas in lood. Rechthoekige houten deuren. In de toren rondboogvormige galmgaten.
Kerk en kerkhof worden omgeven door een bakstenen muur met smeedijzeren hekwerk, in 1933 gerealiseerd naar ontwerp van architect Jos. Cuypers.
Deze muur is opgetrokken uit ruw bezande klinkers met een afdekking van gezande profielsteen. Drie stel hekpijlers met hardstenen dekstukken.
In het INTERIEUR zijn onder meer van belang: hoofdaltaar in marmer en koper uit 1930; een preekstoel met eikehouten kuip met hoogreliëfs van de vier kerkvaders op de zijden, ca.1930; doopvont in hardsteen uit 1622: op vierkant basement met balusterachtige schacht, ronde kuip met wapenschild met anker en de inscriptie ANNO 1622, halfbolvormig koperen deksel van recentere datum met twee handvaten, als bekroning een bol met kruisje; twee houten biechtstoelen, XIX b; diverse beelden in hout en zandsteen; gebrandschilderde ramen van glazenier Hans Truyen uit 1967; orgel van Peereboom & Leyser te Maastricht, 1871, deels 18e eeuwse kast.
Waardering
De R.K. Clemenskerk van Hulsberg is van cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een geestelijke ontwikkeling. Introduction
Neo-Romanesque CATHOLIC CHURCH of St Clemens at Hulsberg, 1908-1930, a design by architects Jan Stuyt and Jos. Cuypers. In 1908 the old church dating from 1820 was extended by Jan Stuyt with the present priest's choir and two sacristy rooms. In 1930 the nave of the church was renewed from the transept arch onwards according to a design by Jos. Cuypers. Contractor G.J. Ruiters of Kerkrade carried out this work.

Description
The R.C. Church of St Clemens is a cross church with side aisles under sawtooth roofs. The whole is covered by gabled and hipped roofs with slate. Constricted spire with copper cladding and a series of small windows, spire crowned by cross and weathervane. Roof turret at the crossing of the nave and transept arms. Projection at the apse with a bell-shaped turret. Roof dormers. Downpipes on consoles.
The nave is preceded by a tower with entrance porch. This entrance porch has a pediment and is flanked by two side chapels. Triangular apse, extensions under hipped roofs at the transept arms.
The church has a reinforced concrete foundation. The nave has an iron roof truss structure. Facing in fieldstone brick with hardstone and unglazed ceramic sills, natural stone ledges and closing stones in the window surrounds, marl cornices in the side aisles. Profiled door surrounds in the transept arms and the side chapels. Arched and segmental arch-shaped steel window frames with leaded glass. Rectangular wooden doors. In the tower round arched sound openings.
Church and churchyard are surrounded by a brick wall with wrought-iron railing, realised in 1933 according to a design by architect Jos. Cuypers.
This wall is constructed of rough sanded clinker bricks with a coping of sanded moulded stone. Three sets of gate piers with hardstone cappings.
In the INTERIOR are among others of importance: high altar in marble and copper from 1930; a pulpit with oak wooden body with high reliefs of the four Church Fathers on the sides, circa 1930; baptismal font in hardstone from 1622: on square base with baluster-like shaft, round bowl with coat of arms with anchor and the inscription ANNO 1622, hemispherical copper lid of more recent date with two handles, crowned with a sphere with small cross; two wooden confessional boxes, 19th century second half; various figures in wood and sandstone; stained glass windows by glazier Hans Truyen from 1967; organ by Peereboom & Leyser of Maastricht, 1871, partly 18th century case.
