Inleiding
In een traditionele bouwstijl in 1913 naar een ontwerp van architect G.W. van Heukelom gebouwd STATIONSGEBOUW. Het betreft een van de stations die tussen 1912 en 1914 werden gebouwd langs de spoorlijn Heerlen-Schin op Geul.
Omschrijving
Het stationsgebouw heeft een in de lengterichting geplaatste veelhoekige plattegrond, telt een deels twee bouwlagen en wordt afgedekt met zadel- en schilddaken. De daken worden gedekt met Tuiles du Nord. Aanzienlijke overstekken rustend op houten consoles. Hoogoplopende geornamenteerde en wit gepleisterde schoorstenen. Een der schoorstenen is van recentere datum. Nokpionnen van keramisch materiaal. Diverse dakkapellen. Het toegepaste bouwmateriaal is natuursteen, baksteen en hout. De baksteen is deels voorzien van wit pleisterwerk. Rechthoekige houten vensters en deuren voorzien van meerruitsroedeverdeling in de bovenlichten.
Stationsgebouw met vrijwel symmetrische frontgevelindeling. De hoofdmassa kenmerkt zich door twee bouwlagen onder een schilddak. Geprofileerde natuurstenen plint met granieten lijst. Rode bakstenen eerste bouwlaag met granieten lateien. Wit gepleisterde tweede bouwlaag met granieten vensterlateien en bakstenen vensterstrek. Linkerdeel frontgevel uitlopend in een topgevel met hierin houten vakwerk op granieten consoles. Middendeel frontgevel eveneens uitlopend in een topgevel met hierin houten vakwerk op granieten consoles.
Aan de linkerzijgevel een uitbouw in een bouwlaag met een schilddak en met een driehoekige dakkapel. Aan de rechterzijgevel eveneens een uitbouw in een bouwlaag met een driehoekige dakkapel.
Gedeelte achtergevel uitlopend in een topgevel met hierin houten vakwerk op granieten consoles. Aan dit vooruitspringend geveldeel een uitbouw van een erker in een bouwlaag met hierop een balkon met bakstenen balustrade en bakstenen kolommen. Tweede gedeelte achtergevel eveneens uitlopend in een topgevel met hierin houten vakwerk op granieten consoles.
INTERIEUR deels intact echter niet beschermenswaardig.
Waardering
Het stationsgebouw van Voerendaal bezit cultuurhistorische waarden als bijzondere uitdrukking van een sociaal-economische en typologische ontwikkeling. Architectuurhistorische waarden ontleent het stationsgebouw aan het bijzondere belang van het gebouw voor het oeuvre van architect G.W. van Heukelom, de hoogwaardige esthetische kwaliteiten van het ontwerp, het bijzondere materiaalgebruik, de ornamentiek en de bijzondere samenhang tussen het exterieur en delen van het interieur.
Ensemblewaarde bezit het stationsgebouw als essentieel onderdeel van het spoorlijntraject Heerlen-Schin op Geul in het glooiende landschap van Zuid-Limburg met diverse stationsgebouwen en kunstwerken en als geheel van bijzondere cultuurhistorische en architectuurhistorische waarde. Het stationsgebouw is tevens van bijzondere betekenis wegens de situering en daarmee verbonden met de ontwikkeling van de streek en van belang voor het aanzien van de kern Voerendaal. Het stationsgebouw is tenslotte van belang wegens de architectonische gaafheid van het exterieur, wegens het belang van het object in relatie tot de structurele en visuele gaafheid van de landschappelijke omgeving, en de architectuurhistorische, typologische en functionele zeldzaamheid.
