Inleiding
Het WOONHUIS in Eclectische stijl met Neo-Renaissance elementen werd ontworpen door architect A.T. van Veen en gebouwd door D. van der Werff Gzn. uit Dokkum. De bouwaanvraag van 17 april 1895 omschrijft het als "de verbouwing van een Heerenhuis", maar alles wijst erop dat het om volledige nieuwbouw handelde. Dat blijkt eveneens uit een baksteen in de rechter zijgevel met de inscriptie 18 SIH 95. De initialen zijn die van de opdrachtgever Sytze Ides Hansma, zonder beroep. Het woonhuis verving een woonhuis met erf (of bleek) op dezelfde plaats, dat hij had geërfd van zijn vader. Mogelijk stond er op het perceel eveneens een pakhuis waarin voordien een brouwerij was gevestigd. Het perceel heeft een diepe achtertuin die uitkomt op het Oosterbolwerk. De hardstenen STOEP met HEK valt binnen de bescherming. Het pand is in 1940 verkocht en aan de achterzijde uitgebreid en gedeeltelijk intern verbouwd. De achtergevel en aanbouwen zijn voor de bescherming van rijkswege van ondergeschikt belang wegens geringe architectonische waarde. In de achtertuin staan bijgebouwen zonder monumentale waarde die buiten de bescherming vallen.
Omschrijving
Het woonhuis heeft globaal een rechthoekige plattegrond met een traditionele indeling, bestaande uit een gang waaraan de verschillende vertrekken liggen. Het pand bestaat uit één bouwlaag onder een afgeknot schilddak op afschot; de dakschilden zijn belegd met gesmoorde kruispannen. Voor het huis langs ligt een omheinde hardstenen stoep met een smeedijzeren hek, waarvan de stijlen een getordeerde punt hebben. De voorgevel is drie raamtraveeën breed. De gevel is opgetrokken in bruine bakstenen op een geprofileerde natuurstenen plint, verlevendigd met gepleisterde banden langs de onder-, wissel- en bovendorpel van de vensters en op de hoeken gepleisterde, imitatie-natuurstenen blokken. De gevel wordt afgesloten door een gevellijst met eenvoudige consoles op de hoeken en onder de opgemetselde dakkapel. De H-vensters met glas-in-lood bovenlichten worden afgesloten door een getoogde streklaag met gepleisterde aanzet-, segment- en sluitstenen. De trommelvelden zijn versierd met bladerdecoratie in hoogreliëf. Op de twee muurdammen een smeedijzeren anker. Voor de geverniste, Neo-Renaissance voordeur met sierhek voor het glazen deurpaneel, ligt een hardstenen stoeptrede. Rechts naast de deur een zandstenen brievenbus. De dakkapel met flauw hellend zadeldak is opgemetseld vanuit de dakvoet. De hoeken hebben gepleisterde imitatie-natuurstenen blokken, (natuur/kunst-)stenen klauwstukken en een gepleisterde band ter hoogte van de wisseldorpel van het T-venster, met half rondbogig bovenlicht. De dakkapel wordt afgesloten door een geprofileerde gevellijst bekroond met een aveinkel en tympaan waarin een cherubkopje is verwerkt, klauwstukken en bolknoppen. In de aveinkel een smeedijzeren anker.
Het INTERIEUR van het pand is structureel oorspronkelijk - hoewel vergroot aan de achterzijde - en bevat onder meer in de gang en de kamers en suite een aantal waardevolle onderdelen. De gang is met marmer bevloerd, heeft een stucplafond met een vruchtenboeket en de oorspronkelijke deuromlijstingen. Het poortje in de gang met een recente tochtdeur heeft op de sluitsteen een beeldje van een jonge vrouw tegen een schelpvormige achtergrond met een hoorn des overvloeds in de arm. De kamers en suite zijn gescheiden door schuifdeuren met scharnierende, halfronde zuilen, die in gesloten toestand een middenzuil vormen. De omlijsting van de schuifdeuren heeft figuurzaagwerk. Het plafond van de voorkamer is voorzien van een stucplafond met een fruitschaal en rand- en hoekdecoraties met schalen. De omlijste kamerdeur heeft figuurzaagwerk voorstellende wapenhoudende leeuwen. Verder heeft de kamer gebogen vensterbanken en kamerblinden in de omlijste vensteropeningen.
Waardering
Het woonhuis gebouwd in 1895 is van algemene cultuurhistorische en architectuurhistorische waarde:

The dwelling house has roughly a rectangular floor plan with a traditional layout, consisting of a corridor to which the various rooms are connected. The property consists of one storey under a truncated hipped roof on a slope; the roof tiles are covered with closed crossed pantiles. In front of the house lies a fenced stone stoep with a wrought-iron gate, the stiles of which have a twisted point. The front facade is three window bays wide. The gable is built in brown bricks on a profiled natural stone plinth, enlivened with plastered bands along the lower, middle and upper frame of the windows and on the corners plastered imitation natural stone blocks. The gable is finished with a cornice with simple corbels on the corners and under the built-in dormer window. The H-windows with leaded-glass fanlights are finished with an arched stretcher course with plastered setting, segmental and closing stones. The drum panels are decorated with foliage decoration in high relief. On the two gables a wrought-iron wall anchor. In front of the varnished Neo-Renaissance front door with decorative gate for the glazed door panel, lies a stone step. To the right of the door a sandstone letterbox. The dormer window with gently sloping gabled roof is built up from the roof foot. The corners have plastered imitation natural stone blocks, (natural/artificial) stone clawtabs and a plastered band at the height of the middle frame of the T-window, with half-rounded fanlight. The dormer window is finished with a profiled cornice crowned with a gable crest and tympanum in which a cherub head is incorporated, clawtabs and ball finials. In the gable crest a wrought-iron anchor.
The INTERIOR of the property is structurally original - although enlarged at the rear - and contains, among other things in the corridor and the adjoining rooms, a number of valuable components. The corridor is paved with marble, has a stucco ceiling with a fruit bouquet and the original door surrounds. The gate in the corridor with a recent draught door has on the keystone a figurine of a young woman against a shell-shaped background with a horn of plenty in the arm. The adjoining rooms are separated by sliding doors with hinged half-round columns which, when closed, form a central column. The frame of the sliding doors has figuresawn work. The ceiling of the front room is provided with a stucco ceiling with a fruit bowl and edge and corner decorations with bowls. The framed room door has figuresawn work depicting heraldic lions. The room also has curved window seats and window blinds in the framed window openings.
Valuation
The dwelling house built in 1895 is of general cultural-historical and architectural-historical value:
- on account of the high degree of importance as a simple stylistic example of the Neo-renaissance,
