MEANDER WALL WITH GATE.

Located on the north and east sides of the kitchen garden of Queekhoven, a meander wall from the second quarter of the 18th century, with piers on the rear side. A part of this wall, rare for the Netherlands, on the east side has been lost in the past. The Mennonite patron Francois Straalman (1678-1754) is a possible client. After marrying Margaretha Kops in 1721, he purchased the country estate Queekhoven in 1725. The wall is composed of approximately five types of brick, in particular dark red stones; the wall is half-brick bonded - 10 courses in 49 cm - with projections on the roll. On the west side of the kitchen garden is an 18th-century gate perpendicular to the meander wall which forms the connection between the park section and the kitchen garden. Two brick piers on pedestals flank a round-arched gateway. The passage is closed by a wrought-iron door with a diamond motif at the bottom, vertical bars in the middle section and leaf motifs at the top. On the piers stand two vases in Louis XIV style which are flattened on the kitchen garden side and whose front and side faces are decorated with knots, diamonds and volutes.
