Inleiding
HERENHUIS, 1895, in een het door het eclecticisme beïnvloede bouwstijl.
De erker in de tweede bouwlaag betreft een toevoeging uit 1904 in opdracht van Dr. Ruland. Het herenhuis is gesitueerd in een gesloten wandgedeelte van de Wilhelminasingel.
Omschrijving
Het herenhuis heeft een in de lengterichting geplaatste rechthoekige plattegrond, telt drie bouwlagen en een souterrainverdieping en wordt afgedekt met een zadeldak met muldenpannen. Twee dakkapellen. Het toegepaste bouwmateriaal is imitatie breuksteen, baksteen in kruisverband en keramische tegels. Rechthoekige houten paneeldeur en houten T-vensters.
Symmetrische gevelopbouw en invulling. Plint in imitatie breuksteen, optrek in baksteen. In middendeel frontgevel de ingangspartij, hierboven in de tweede bouwlaag een erker met plat dak. Erker op voormalig balkon met decoratieve consoles. Vensters gevat in gemetselde segmentboog rollagen. Tussen segmentboog en rollaag tegelmozaïeken. Venster- en deuromlijstingen in geglazuurde profielsteen. Gepleisterde sluitstenen en banden. Middendeel frontgevel uitlopend in topgevel met hierin twee vensters en bekroond met een nokpion.
Waardering
Het voormalig herenhuis bezit architectuurhistorische waarde vanwege de bouwstijl, wegens de esthetische kwaliteiten van het ontwerp en de ornamentiek. Ensemblewaarde ontleent het herenhuis aan de situering aan de Wilhelminasingel. Het herenhuis is een zeer belangrijk onderdeel van deze singelbebouwing aan de oostzijde van de stad, is vanwege de situering verbonden met de ontwikkeling van de stad en is van bijzondere betekenis voor het aanzien van de stad.
