Inleiding
INKOOPSTATION VAN ELECTRISCHE STROOM in expressionistische stijl, ca. 1925. Gesitueerd in de gesloten wand van de Akerstraat, tussen Spoorweglaan en Alexander Battalaan.
Omschrijving
Inkoopstation, bestaande uit een souterrain plus een bouwlaag met verhoogde lantaarn op rechthoekige plattegrond, exclusief een kleine achtergeveluitbouw. Het geheel wordt gedekt door een plat dak, dat schuil gaat achter een kopgevel met hardstenen afdekking. De verhoogde lantaarn heeft een zadeldak met Tuile du Nord-pannen, verzonken tussen kopgevels.
Zeer expressieve, symmetrische voorgevel. Donker getinte, geprofileerde bakstenen plint met rollaag, lichter getinte bakstenen optrek, gemetseld in kettingverband. Centraal in de voorgevel een dubbele stalen deur in een geprofileerde deurlijst met rollaag en een decoratieve strekkenlijst met sluitsteen.
Deze sluitsteen is viervoudig geprofileerd en ondersteunt het uitstulpende, rechthoekige houten kruiskozijn met glas-in-lood.
Dit venster is geplaatst onder een zwaar gedimensioneerde betonnen latei met rollaag. De gevelhoeken zijn voorzien van uitstulpende lisenen met bloktanddecoraties, waarin glas-in-lood-vensters (thans draadglas) met smeedroosters, op gemetselde consoles. De gevel is voorzien van een over de hele breedte doorlopende viervoudige profiellijst, waaronder ventilatieroosters. De uitstulpende geveldelen zijn bekroond met hardstenen afdekkingen in diverse vormen. De kopgevel loopt uit in twee schouderstukken van ongelijke hoogte.
Eenvoudige bakstenen achtergevel in wild metselverband op geprofileerde plint; in de lantaarn rechthoekig stalen vensterkozijn met kleine roedeverdeling onder betonlatei en een rechthoekige stalen deur. Het kleine binnenplaatsje wordt omgeven door een bakstenen muur.
Het INTERIEUR van het inkoopstation is in hoge mate gaaf en heeft terrazzovloeren en gele tegellambrizeringen.
Waardering
Het inkoopstation is van cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een sociaal-economische, technische en typologische ontwikkeling. De architectuurhistorische waarden worden bepaald door de expressieve bouwstijl, de esthetiek en de ornamentiek. Het inkoopstation is een belangrijke onderdeel van het stadsdeel Wyck, is van belang voor het aanzien van deze wijk en vanwege de situering verbonden met de ontwikkeling van de stad. Purchase station, consisting of a basement plus one storey with raised lantern on rectangular floor plan, excluding a small rear facade extension. The whole is covered by a flat roof, which is hidden behind a gable facade with limestone capping. The raised lantern has a gabled roof with Tuile du Nord tiles, recessed between gable facades.
Very expressive, symmetrical front facade. Dark-tinted, profiled brick plinth with moulding, lighter-tinted brickwork, laid in bond. Centrally in the front facade a double steel door in a profiled door surround with moulding and a decorative course line with keystone.
This keystone is quadruple-profiled and supports the projecting, rectangular wooden cross window with leaded glass.
This window is placed under a heavily dimensioned concrete lintel with moulding. The facade corners are provided with projecting pilasters with block-toothed decoration, containing leaded glass windows (now wired glass) with wrought-iron grilles, on masonry consoles. The facade is provided with a four-fold profile line running across the full width, below which ventilation grilles. The projecting facade sections are crowned with limestone cappings in various forms. The gable facade terminates in two shoulders of unequal height.
Simple brick rear facade in random bond on profiled plinth; in the lantern rectangular steel window frame with small glazing bars under concrete lintel and a rectangular steel door. The small courtyard is surrounded by a brick wall.
The INTERIOR of the purchase station is highly intact and has terrazzo floors and yellow tile wainscoting.
