Inleiding
SOCIËTEIT Slavante, XIXb, in empirestijl. Het pand is in gebruik geweest bij de in 1840 opgerichte liberale Maastrichtse Sociëteit Momus. Gesitueerd tegen de oostelijke helling van de St. Pietersberg. De aangebouwde toiletblokken aan de achtergevel zijn uitgesloten van bescherming.
Omschrijving
Vrijstaande buitensociëteit op T-vormige plattegrond, één bouwlaag met mezzanino. Geheel gepleisterde en gestucte optrek op hardstenen plint, in de eerste laag voorzien van imitatievoegen. Gestucte gevellijst, waarboven de gepleisterde mezzanino met kleine kroonlijst.
Symmetrische gevelindeling met vijf traveeën, één vensteras in de zijgevels. Aan de voorgevel een terras onder half houten schilddak, met grijs-zwart hardstenen terrasvloer, steunend op ranke gietijzeren zuilen met kleine kapitelen, geornamenteerde regels en boeiboorden. Het terras is naderhand voorzien van glazen zijwanden.
Houten, zowel rechthoekige als rondboogvormige dubbele deuren met bovenlichten in schelpmotief, decoratieve geleding van de glaspanelen, recente smeedijzeren traliewerken. Houten mezzaninovensters in de vorm van liggende rechthoeken, met decoratieve houten geleding en ijzeren rozetten.
Het hoofdvolume wordt gedekt door een schilddak met Hollandse pannen, bakgoten.
In het INTERIEUR zijn onder meer van belang de houten deurlijsten met lijst en vergulde ornamenten; tegen de achterwand, boven de uitbouw een Frans balkon in hout met vergulde spijlen en consoles. Kooflijst van gestucte consoles, waartussen rosetten. Twee kroonluchters aan plafondrozetten.
Waardering
De Sociëteit Slavante is van cultuurhistorisch belang als zeer bijzondere uitdrukking van een culturele, maatschappelijke en typologische ontwikkeling en heeft als zodanig een aanzienlijke innovatieve waarde. Het pand is uit architectuurhistorisch oogpunt van belang vanwege de bouwstijl, de esthetische kwaliteit, het materiaalgebruik en de ornamentiek.
