Inleiding
VILLA Marguerite, 1890. Deze vrijstaande villa, in een door de chaletstijl beïnvloede bouwtrant, is een van de vier villa's in de radialen van het thans verdwenen centrale plein van het villapark. De villa werd gebouwd naar een ontwerp van architect W. Sprenger te Maastricht, in opdracht van dhr. Bonhomme. In 1910 werd de villa verbouwd, in 1913 voorzien van een loggia.
Omschrijving Villa met souterrain, twee bouwlagen en zolderverdieping op een rechthoekige plattegrond. Uitgebouwde toren aan de zuidgevel.
Het geheel wordt gedekt door een afgevlakt schilddak met insteekkap. Ingesnoerde torenspits met afgeknot dak. Leien in Maasdekking. Karakteristieke dakkapellen, voorzien van ronde houten vensterkozijnen. Zinken nokversieringen en smeedijzeren torenhekwerk. Overstek van de ingestoken topgevel voorzien van houten chaletoverstek. Luifelgoten op houten consoles.
Voorgevel met drie vensterassen. Het aanzien van de villa wordt bepaald door een risalerend gevelvlak met erker, uitlopend in een topgevel met chaletoverstek; voorts door een risalerende, aan de zuidzijde uitgebouwde toren met erker. Beide erkers zijn voorzien van balkons met een smeedijzeren balustrade.
Bakstenen optrek in twee kleurnuances, met gestucte gevellijsten. Gele bakstenen aanzet- en sluitstenen in de rollagen, in de tweede bouwlaag bekroond door rondbogen met tweekleurig siermetselwerk in de vulstukken.
Segmentboogvormige houten vensters en balkondeuren.
Segmentboogvormige, dubbele houten paneeldeur met smeedijzeren traliewerk. Rechthoekige houten erkervensters met verticale vijfruits bovenlichtindeling.
Het gehele perceel wordt omgeven door een eenvoudig smeedijzeren hekwerk.
Waardering
De Villa Marguerite is van cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een sociaal-economische ontwikkeling: de vestiging van de gegoede burgerij buiten de stadsmuren; daarnaast als bijzonder specimen van een typologische ontwikkeling.
De architectuurhistorische waarden worden bepaald door de bouwstijl, door het belang van het pand voor het oeuvre van architect Willem Sprenger, door de hoogwaardige esthetische kwaliteit van diens ontwerp en door de ornamentiek.
De Villa Marguerite is van zeer grote betekenis als essentieel onderdeel van het Villapark, dat cultuurhistorisch, architectuurhistorisch en stedebouwkundig van nationaal belang is.
