Inleiding
In zakelijk expressionistische stijl gebouwde PRAKTIJKWONING, 1933, naar een ontwerp van architect A.J.N. Boosten in opdracht van de CoöperatieveBouwvereniging "Ons Belang". De woning is gesitueerd in de gesloten binnenwand van de Hertogsingel en bij een renovatie voorzien van een aantal kunststof vensterkozijnen.
Omschrijving
De praktijkwoning heeft een rechthoekige plattegrond, telt drie bouwlagen en een souterrainverdieping en wordt afgedekt met een zadeldak met grijze mulden pannen. Zadeldak verzonken tussen kopgevels. Een brede dakkapel. Luifelgoot. Het toegepaste bouwmateriaal is baksteen in een smal formaat, gemetseld in kettingverband. Zandsteen. Hardsteen. Staal.
Hout. Rechthoekige houten paneeldeur. Rechthoekige kunststoffen vensters met verticale kozijngeleding. Rechthoekig stalen 18-ruits venster met glas-in-lood, voorzien van symbolen refererend aan de dokterspraktijk o.a. aesculaap.
Sousterrain en de plint zijn bekleed met kunststenen platen. De entree is bereikbaar via zes traptreden, de souterrain-garage via een hellingbaan. In de eerste bouwlaag bevindt zich de toegangsdeur met geprofileerde, geheel met hardsteen beklede lijst en luifel. Daarboven, over twee bouwlagen, het verticaal geaccentueerde stalen trappenhuisvenster. In het rechtergeveldeel benadrukken drie, ten opzichte van de gevel risalerende vensterkozijnen dit verticale accent, dat bekroond wordt door een dakkapel met identieke kozijngeleding. De vensterkozijnen zijn voorzien van horizontale houten luifels en zandstenen dorpels.
De hele asymmetrische gevel bestaat uit een groot risaliet met een terugliggende lijst, hetgeen benadrukt wordt door de verspringende lijn van de luifelgoot.
Van het INTERIEUR is onder meer van belang: entreehalletje met vloer en wanden deels bekleed met platen bruin-grijze marmer; aan rechterzijde smal glas in lood venstertje; trappenhuis met o.a. houten lambrizering en trapleuning met houten armlegger; hoog glas-in-lood venster met o.a. aesculaap-symbool vervaardigd door atelier Felix te Maastricht. Overige interieurindeling redelijk intact, maar niet beschermenswaardig.
Waardering
De praktijkwoning aan de Hertogsingel 43 is van cultuurhistorische waarde als specimen van een cultuurhistorische ontwikkeling. Het pand bezit architectuurhistorische waarden vanwege de zakelijk expressionistische bouwstijl en is derhalve van belang voor de geschiedenis van de architectuur; de praktijkwoning is van betekenis voor het oeuvre van architect A.J.N. Boosten en vanwege de hoogwaardige esthetische kwaliteit van diens ontwerp. Daarnaast is er sprake van een bijzondere samenhang tussen exterieur en delen van het interieur.
Het pand is uit oogpunt van ensemblewaarden van grote betekenis als onderdeel van het Maastrichtse singelgebied dat cultuurhistorisch, architectuurhistorisch en stedebouwkundig van nationaal belang is.
Vanwege de situering is de praktijkwoning ten zeerste verbonden met de ontwikkeling en uitbreiding van de stad en is van betekenis voor het aanzien van de stad.

PRACTICE RESIDENCE built in business expressionist style, 1933, designed by architect A.J.N. Boosten on commission of the Cooperative Building Association "Ons Belang". The residence is situated in the closed inner wall of the Hertogsingel and during renovation was provided with a number of plastic window frames.
Description
The practice residence has a rectangular floor plan, comprises three storeys and a basement storey and is covered with a gabled roof with grey curved tiles. Gabled roof recessed between gable walls. A broad roof dormer. Gutter with hood. The building material used is brickwork in a narrow format, laid in chain bond. Sandstone. Hardstone. Steel.
Wood. Rectangular wooden panel door. Rectangular plastic windows with vertical frame glazing. Rectangular steel 18-pane window with leaded glass, featuring symbols referring to the medical practice including the staff of Aesculapius.
Basement and plinth are clad with artificial stone slabs. The entrance is accessible via six steps, the basement garage via a ramp. On the first storey is the entrance door with profiled list entirely clad in hardstone and hood. Above this, spanning two storeys, the vertically accentuated steel stairwell window. In the right section of the facade, three window frames projecting from the facade emphasize this vertical accent, which is crowned by a roof dormer with identical frame glazing. The window frames are fitted with horizontal wooden hoods and sandstone sills.
The entire asymmetrical facade consists of a large projection with a recessed list, which is emphasized by the stepped line of the hood gutter.
