Inleiding
In Traditioneel-ambachtelijke stijl in 1888 in opdracht van M.B. Ulens, overste van de Ursulinen gebouwde SCHOOL.
De school is in de wand van de Capucijnenstraat gesitueerd.
Omschrijving
De school heeft een in de lengterichting geplaatste rechthoekige plattegrond,telt twee bouwlagen en wordt afgedekt met een schilddak met mulden pannen. Dak met inpandige goot. Dakkapellen onder zadeldakje met geornamenteerd houten overstek waarin een driepas in uitgespaard. Het toegepaste bouwmateriaal is baksteen in twee tinten en hardsteen.
Rechthoekige houten zesruits vensters, rechthoekige dubbele houten deur met bovenlicht. Zowel vensters als deur zijn geplaatst in rondboogvormige lijsten.
Vrijwel symmetrisch ontwerp, dat in de frontgevel voorzien is van negen vensterassen. In de linkerzijgevel bevinden zich blinde vensters. In de rechterzijgevel entree met rechthoekige houten deur. Het geheel kenmerkt zich door een met hardsteen beklede plint, voorzien van kelderopeningen; een bakstenen optrek met hardstenen dorpellijsten en rondboogvormige venster- en deurlijsten in rode profielsteen en voorzien van geel-rood siermetselwerk in de vulstukken. Decoratieve, getande kroonlijst in rode baksteen. Tussen de venstertraveeÙn zijn de smeedijzeren muurankers geplaatst.
Interieur waarschijnlijk in jaren twintig ingrijpend gewijzigd, overigens niet beschermenswaardig.
Waardering
De school is van cultuurhistorisch belang als bijzondere uitdrukking van een maatschappelijke, geestelijke en typologische ontwikkeling. De architectuurhistorische waarde van het pand wordt bepaald door de esthetische kwaliteiten van het ontwerp, het bijzondere materiaalgebruik en de ornamentiek.Als object van jongere bouwkunst is het een essentiëel onderdeel van het beschermd stadsgezicht Maastricht en van bijzondere betekenis voor het aanzien van de stad.
Het gebouw is van zeer groot belang vanwege de architectonische gaafheid van het exterieur en van importantie in relatie tot de visuele gaafheid van de stedelijke omgeving. De school beschikt vanwege de hoge ouderdom over een grote mate van typologische en functionele zeldzaamheid.

Description
The school has a rectangular floor plan placed in the longitudinal direction, comprises two storeys and is covered with a hipped roof with curved tiles. Roof with internal gutter. Roof dormers under a small gabled roof with ornamented wooden overhang in which a trefoil is cut out. The building material used is brick in two tones and hardstone.
Rectangular wooden six-light windows, rectangular double wooden door with fanlight. Both windows and door are placed in round-arched mouldings.
Almost symmetrical design, featuring nine window bays in the front façade. Blind windows are located in the left side façade. Entrance with rectangular wooden door in the right side façade. The whole is characterized by a hardstone-clad plinth, furnished with basement openings; a brick structure with hardstone threshold mouldings and round-arched window and door mouldings in red profiled stone and decorated with yellow-red decorative brickwork in the infill sections. Decorative toothed cornice in red brick. Between the window bays ornamental wrought-iron wall anchors are placed.
Interior probably substantially altered in the nineteen twenties, otherwise not worthy of preservation.
Evaluation
