Inleiding
Expressionistisch vormgegeven vakverenigingsgebouw genaamd ARBEIDSBEURS, 1925, gesitueerd in de gesloten wand van de Batterijstraat. Gebouwd in opdracht van de RK-Volksbond. De zaalruimte op de begane grond, met uitbouw van een laag onder plat tussen achtergevel en keukenuitbouw, is in gebruik bij het naburige pand nr.48.
Omschrijving
Voormalig vakverenigingsgebouw op L-vormige plattegrond met souterrain, drie bouwlagen en zolderverdieping, grotendeels onder een zadeldak met grijze muldenpannen. Bakgoten op klossen. De keukenuitbouw dwars op de achtergevel is voorzien van een plat.
Pand met lijstgevel in drie bouwlagen in de gesloten wand van de Batterijstraat. Onregelmatige gevelindeling in de eerste laag.
Hoge plint van rood gemetseld reliefwerk in blokmotief. Gele bakstenen optrek in kruisverband. Zwaar gedimensioneerde lateien van Naamse steen in de eerste bouwlaag, waarvan de latei boven het kruisvenster is voorzien van het opschrift "Arbeidsbeurs".
Twee rechthoekige houten paneeldeuren, waarvan een met ruitvormig ornament en het ander met een gekoppeld bovenlicht van zesruitsvensters.
In de tweede bouwlaag bevinden zich twee driekante erkers, rustend op twaalf trapsgewijs uitkragende baksteenlagen, waarin rechthoekige houten T-vensters met zesruits bovenlichten en ongelede zijlichten met vierruits bovenlicht. Daartussen een vlaggemasthouder met baksteenconsole. In de derde bouwlaag vier tweegewijs en een driegewijs gekoppeld venster met zesruits roedeverdeling per glaspaneel.
De bakstenen achtergevel, gemetseld in kruisverband, heeft een getrapte rooilijn. In de achtergevel een vensteras met twee rechthoekige houten, verticaal ingedeelde vensters. In de keukenuitbouw twee vensterassen met identieke vensters en een rechthoekige houten deur, die toegang geeft tot het plat van de zaaluitbouw. Strekken. Bakstenen dorpels. In de achtergevel van de keukenuitbouw twee rechthoekige houten kruiskozijnen.
De indeling van het interieur verkeert grotendeels in authentieke staat, maar is voor het overige niet beschermenswaardig.
Waardering
De voormalige Arbeidsbeurs is van cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een sociaal-economische en typologische ontwikkeling. Description
