Inleiding
TUIN in Engelse Landschapsstijl.
- wegens de in essentie bewaarde karakteristieke midden 19de- eeuwse vo rmgeving met de kenmerken van de Engelse Landschapsstijl;
- als redelijk gaaf bewaard, kenmerkend en inmiddels zeldzaam geworden voorbeeld van indertijd in het Oldambt gangbare boerentuin ('slingertune');
- wegens het voor de tijd van ontstaan kenmerkende sortiment aan (inmiddels zeer monumentaal uitgegroeide) bomen en andere beplanting;
- wegens de relatie met de qua interieur en exterieur zeer gave boerderij met bijbehorende opstallen;

Description
Description of complex component 2
Introduction
GARDEN in English Landscape style. 'Slingertune' (serpentine garden), laid out around 1858, at the same time as the new construction of the front house. The designer of the garden remains unknown to the present day.
To the west of the garden lies a paved drive lined with linden trees, which may also date from the middle of the 19th century.
Description
The garden lying in front of the farmhouse and bordered on all sides by a ditch consists of a vegetable and ornamental garden section with an irregularly shaped water feature, of which the path layout (still known from old images) has been replaced by grass over time. A no longer entirely authentic little bridge with presumably mid to late 19th-century iron balusters connects the landscape garden with the inner garden bordered by a beech hedge and a ditch, which directly adjoins the front house. On the east and west sides of the farmhouse lies a beech hedge.
The actual serpentine garden consists of a lawn with raised sides, which was originally intersected by a number of (now grass-covered) serpentine paths that ran along and around an irregularly shaped pond. The planting now includes amongst others poplar, maple, ash, (evergreen) holly, beech and 'flowering trees' such as magnolia and Caucasian wingnut; furthermore monumental and varied planting beside the farmhouse (copper beech and maple) and on the front area (weeping beech and copper beech); the latter two specimen trees are also of considerable visual importance for the Hoofdweg.
Valuation
Serpentine garden or 'slingertune' of general cultural and garden-historical importance:
- because of the essentially preserved characteristic mid 19th-century form with features of the English Landscape style;
- as a reasonably well-preserved, characteristic and by now rare example of the farmhouse garden ('slingertune') once common in the Oldambt;
- because of the assortment of trees and other planting characteristic of the time of creation (in the meantime grown to monumental dimensions);
- because of the relationship with the farmhouse and associated buildings which are very well-preserved both in interior and exterior;
- because of the visual significance of the garden and monumental planting for the Hoofdweg.
