Omschrijving
Inleiding

Description
Introduction
VILLA, now part of the town hall, built in 1880. In 1954 the villa became a town hall, on which occasion the interior was somewhat altered.
The town hall has been extended with an annex. This adjoins the ground floor of the east facade. This extension is of subsidiary importance for national protection purposes. In the south facade a door has been installed in the lower left window. The west facade on the street side has remained intact.
The villa is executed in eclectic style. The horizontal facade division is classical, details such as the mouldings are executed in neo-Louis XIV style. The villa is distinctively situated in the oldest part of Goor.
Description
The villa is constructed from a square floor plan in plastered brickwork over two storeys and crowned with a hipped roof, tiled with Dutch glazed tiles. On the north side an extension over two floors, rounded off at ground level, with windows that follow the curve. Horizontal facade division by means of pilaster arrangement and drip mouldings. On the ground floor pilasters in stuccoed block bond and windows with round-arch fanlights with radial glazing bars within mouldings. The keystones of the mouldings on the ground floor carry the drip moulding, a frieze with rose ornamental wall anchors, which separates the storeys. On the upper floor fluted pilasters with base and composite capitals. In all facades on the upper floor segmental arch windows with cross windows within mouldings with cresting. Wall piers provided with blind niches by means of stucco mouldings.
The facades are terminated by a cornice with dentil moulding and egg-and-dart moulding.
In the north facade is the entrance, provided with a double door, with stained-glass windows with floral motifs installed behind wrought-iron door furniture.
On the upper floor are cartouche windows in the west facade. The roof shield above the west facade is provided with a roof dormer with a triangular pediment on pilasters.
The rooms of the villa are grouped around a central hall. In this hall richly worked wooden wall panelling and door posts have been installed in eclectic style. The floors are covered with marble. In the hall is an old clock. Further special attention is deserved by the current mayor's office, with wooden wall panelling and fireplace and geometric ceiling division, and the toilets with Victorian sanitaryware and tile wall panelling.
When taken into use as a town hall in 1954, a stained-glass window was installed on the upper floor. Much of the furniture also dates from this period.
Valuation
The villa is of significance because of:
- the cultural-historical value because it was built as an urban villa and has functioned as a town hall for the municipality of Goor since 1954.
- the architectural value because it represents an almost intact and richly executed example of an architectural style that was particularly common around 1880 especially in the large cities, and which in Twente is especially found in the cities along the IJssel.
- the reasonable integrity of the object, in particular the interior of several principal rooms which has remained unaltered.
- the distinctive location against the old centre of Goor.
