Inleiding
KEERSLUIS, de sas te Genemuiden, gelegen tussen de binnen- en de buitenhaven, vormt onderdeel van de hoofdwaterkering van de polder Mastenbroek. De keersluis, d.w.z. met slechts één stel deuren, is gebouwd in 1866 na de stormvloeden van 1862 en 1863. De sas is ontworpen door A.L. de Bruin Kops. De eerste steen is gelegd op 10 augustus, door de burgemeester van Genemuiden H.J. Hulst, tevens dijkgraaf. De tekst op de gedenksteen in de sluis luidt als volgt: "De eerste steen deser sluis is gelegd den 10 augustus 1866 door den Burgemeester van Genemuiden H.J. Hulst in bijwezen van den Raad dier gemeente waarvan de leden waren J. van Dalfsen Jlz, R.E. Heutink; wethouders, A.J. Visscher, K. Bakker, W.H. Groothuis, J.W. Jonkers en W. van Dalfsen Jzn. Het werk is ontworpen door A.L. de Bruin Kops en uitgevoerd onder directie van A.M.K.W. Baron van Ittersum Ingenieur van den Waterstaat onder toezigt van den Opzigter B. van Aalderen".
Via de buitenhaven is de sluis verbonden met het Zwarte Water, het Zwolse Diep en het IJsselmeer. De functie van de sas is het achter de hoofdwaterkering gelegen land bij hoge tot extreem hoge waterstanden te beschermen tegen overstroming. De Genemuider sas is compleet, inclusief één stel deuren, stalen loopbrug met bewegingswerken en een ernaast gelegen petroleumkelder (met een voorraad voor de bevolking die hier geplaatst i.v.m. brandgevaar).
De schutbalksponningen zijn aangebracht in 1950-1952 bij de uitvoering van het inundatieplan voor West-Overijssel in het kader van de IJssellinie.
De sluis is gerestaureerd in 1987, waarbij deels gebruik is gemaakt van de oorspronkelijke bouwonderdelen.
Omschrijving
Keersluis met één stel houten puntdeuren, bediend door duwbomen met kettinglieren. De sluiswanden zijn opgetrokken in baksteen, voorzien van deurkassen en schutbalksponningen. Het metselwerk is afgedekt met natuurstenen dekplaten. Constructief kwetsbare delen (randen, hoeken, e.d.) zijn ook in natuursteen uitgevoerd. Aan beide zijden van de sluis zijn aan de sluiswanden gemetselde vleugelmuren aangebracht, eveneens met natuurstenen dekplaten. Over de sluis loopt een stalen loopbrug die middels een kettinglier en gietijzeren windwerken over een rollenbaan bewogen kan worden. Op de brug een gietijzeren poortje. Naast de brug een gietijzeren lantaarnpaal.
In de oostelijke zijwand zijn een hardstenen peilschaal en een gedenkplaat aangebracht. De gedenkplaat herinnert aan de eerste steenlegging.
De petroleumkelder is geheel met aarde afgedekt en daardoor aan het oog onttrokken.
