The register's description

-vanwege de ouderdom;

-vanwege de architectonische vormgeving in een neo-classicistische stijl;

-vanwege de redelijke mate van gaafheid van het exterieur;

-vanwege de nagenoeg oorspronkelijke plattegrond en indeling van de binnenruimten;

-vanwege de functioneel-ruimtelijke relatie met de andere onderdelen van de buitenplaats;

-vanwege de kenmerkende ligging binnen de midden-19de-eeuwse kleinschalige parkaanleg in (vroege) landschapsstijl.

The MAIN BUILDING (House De Achterhoek) in a neo-classical architectural style is presumed to originate from the 18th century (c. 1870). A facade stone set into the gable bearing the inscription "1816" likely indicates a renovation in that year.

The block-shaped house on a rectangular groundplan has two storeys and is covered by a slate (Maas) roof with a raftered structure and half-hipped ends. Chimneys built into the masonry of the half-hipped ends, on the flatter section one chimney and centrally a bell-tower. The plastered facades are provided with mock joints.

The front and rear facades are arranged with strict symmetry. In the five-bay-wide front facade is located centrally a double door with fanlight with lozenge-shaped glazing bars. The entrance is set within a surround consisting of pilasters with a cornice. On either side of the entrance sash windows with shutters and a drip moulding running across the width of the facade at the bottom of the windows. On the floor level in the window axes a four-pane window with shutters. The detailing of the windows has not remained uniform throughout: the oldest sash windows feature a broad central glazing bar (an Empire characteristic).

The left side facade is likewise arranged symmetrically with windows as in the front and rear facades and glazed terrace doors at the location of a former veranda.

The right side facade is provided with an extension.

INTERIOR: The internal structure of the house is intact. In the hall is found among other things a fireplace. The floors of the corridor and service rooms are executed in terrazzo work. The doors and surrounds and the stucco ceilings of various rooms are original. The stucco ceilings are provided with vine scrolls in an Empire style. Also present are carefully finished timber linings; among other things the timber linings at the windows into which folding shutters are incorporated.

Valuation

The MAIN BUILDING is of general cultural and architectural importance by reason of:

-by reason of its age;

-by reason of its architectural design in a neo-classical style;

-by reason of the reasonable degree of integrity of the exterior;

-by reason of the virtually original floor plan and layout of the interior spaces;

-by reason of the functional-spatial relationship with the other components of the country estate;

-by reason of the characteristic location within the mid-19th-century small-scale park layout in (early) landscape style.
