Inleiding

Description
Introduction
The former PARSONAGE of the Mennonite church is connected by means of the CONSISTORY ROOM to the Mennonite church from 1802 (separate national monument number 7049). The floor plan exhibits the principle of 'head-neck-body', parallel to the road. The parsonage, currently used as an office, is of the so-called annuitant's dwelling type and was built in eclectic style after the demolition of the old parsonage in 1865, as evidenced by a commemorative stone in the east-side gable. The architect of this parsonage is D. Duursma; the work was executed by contractor P. Ozinga. Behind the house lies the tree-lined grounds of the former parsonage garden. A narrow gravel strip in front of the house and reused iron railings on a brick base form the boundary with the pavement.
The consistory room was presumably altered or built at the same time, as it forms a visual unity with the parsonage. In 1957 the consistory was extended at the rear: this extension falls outside national monument protection due to low value.
Description
The former parsonage is a block-shaped, symmetrical building consisting of one storey under a truncated hipped roof. The detailing on the street side is richer than on the side and rear gables. The main wall structure consists of brown hand-moulded bricks with a natural stone plinth at the front and pre-built brick plinth on the side gables; the roof cornice and gutter cornice are not entirely continuous. The roof slopes are covered with black glazed flat Frisian tiles; on the four corners stand chimneys, of which the two on the street side are topped with a chimney board. The building is five window bays wide; the fanlights of the H-windows under a depressed arch are accompanied by a plastered eyebrow arch on ceramic consoles. The central bay with the entrance is set back in the gable wall. The plastered door soffit is bay-width; above it is a framed fanlight with cast iron tree of life and cast iron corner fillings; below a double panelled door with plastered mirror panels provided with stucco decorations on both sides. To the left of the door is a natural stone letterbox. In front of the door lies a renewed two-step hard stone step in a mortared frame. In the central bay the roof cornice is interrupted; the gutter cornice rests on decorated consoles. Above it a bay-wide (recently) white-plastered built-up cabin with a depressed arched cross window light on the street side; in the side gables semicircular two-light windows. The original venetian blinds of the latter have been removed but remain in the building. In the side gables are arched windows without eyebrow arches. In the left side gable is a commemorative stone with the inscription: ON THE 25th AUGUST 1865 / BY / YME TERPSTRA / THE FIRST STONE OF / THIS BUILDING WAS LAID /. In the rear gable the rear door and the sober, original T-windows have been renewed, but the gable layout has not been altered. The interior layout of the building has remained intact. Among others present in the left front room are the curved window sills provided with curls, the room blinds, the chimney breast with stucco decoration depicting vine tendrils and a ceiling decoration of papier-mâché with cherub heads. The roof space of the building has been completely modernised.
The consistory room is extensively set back on the street side. The intermediate room is built up in brown hand-moulded bricks under a gabled roof covered with black glazed Frisian tiles; on the ridge a chimney with cover plate. The gutter cornice rests on decorated consoles. In the recessed wall surface two six-pane windows under depressed arch are located between mortared plinth, frieze and corner lisenes. The framed panelled door has a fanlight in which a cast iron tree of life and corner fillings.
Valuation
The former Mennonite parsonage from 1865 of the so-called annuitant's dwelling type and consistory room are of cultural-historical and architectural importance because of:
- the significance as an expression of a social and spiritual development,
- the visual integrity of the complex, consisting of the church (1802/4, national monument 7049), consistory room and parsonage,
- the high degree of architectural integrity of the exterior,
- the significant degree of integrity of the interior of the former parsonage and the coherence between some decorations and the original function of the building,
- the architectural integrity of the whole.
