Inleiding

Introduction

STOLP FARMHOUSE of the North Holland type, presumably built in the seventeenth century and extended in the second half of the nineteenth century. During this extension the square was enlarged with a half square. The appearance of the farmhouse, silhouette and total building mass, was thereby radically altered. Because the farmhouse is located approximately 100 metres from the road, it is precisely the silhouette and the total building mass that are the determining factors for the first impression. The side gables and the rear gable were rebuilt as a result of the extension. The windows in the front gable also date from the nineteenth century.

Description

Stolp farmhouse built on a rectangular ground plan beneath a reed-thatched hipped roof with tiled edging all round. The tiled parts contain black Dutch tiles. The ridge line of the roof is perpendicular to the Jan Glijnisweg. The masonry is built of red brick. The farmhouse is partially cellared. The cellar floor is paved with large green flagstones.

The internal wooden load-bearing structure consists of a double square with an overhang above the summer barn (rear side). The stiles of the square are placed on high masonry posts with wooden cover plates. On the south side of the square is the dwelling, on the west side the threshing floor, on the east side the barn (long joist) and on the north side the summer barn (short joist).

The front gable of the farmhouse (S) is built above a slightly projecting, black tarred plinth. The front gable has a width of seven window bays. The third and sixth bays (from the left) contain a front door, the remaining bays contain a T-shaped sash window with wooden drip mouldings. The two front doors are panel doors and have richly decorated iron ornamental grilles in the panels and a tree of life in the fanlight. The left front door was originally the 'Sunday door', but is now a false door. The front gable is finished with a wooden guttering on consoles. A square brick chimney intersects the front roof at the centre.

The right side gable (E) is built above a plinth rendered with cement. The wall is provided with two buttresses. There are still three high-placed arched iron stable windows present.

The rear gable (N) likewise has a plinth rendered with cement. In the left part of the gable (summer barn) there is a clamped door with three-light fanlight and three high-placed arched iron stable windows. Two high-placed rectangular wooden windows were added later. At the far right there is - set slightly back - the threshing floor with clamped threshing floor door, a smaller clamped door with three-light fanlight and a wall surface covered with rabat boards.

The masonry of the left side gable (W) was rebuilt in the twentieth century. A wall band marks the dividing line between dwelling and threshing floor section. In the threshing floor section five high-placed rectangular wooden windows have been installed.

In the interior the beds in the dwelling and the summer barn are still present. The stove of the summer barn is also still intact.

Valuation

The stolp farmhouse is of general importance as a historically functional principal component of the described complex (see complex valuation).
