Inleiding
In 1910, in overgangsstijl gebouwde middenstandswoning. De woning vormt een onderdeel van de gesloten monumentale kadebebouwing waartussen deze, samen met de woning op nummer 3, opvalt door de kleurige, gedecoreerde gevel.
Omschrijving
De voorgevel is opgetrokken uit strakke gele baksteen en verlevendigd met o.a. bogen en lisenen in rode baksteen met accenten in wittige steen; pinakelachtige gevel- en dakkapelelementen; groene, geglazuurde bakstenen dorpelbanden en boogrand boven de begane-grondkozijnen. Tegelvullingen in de boogtrommels. Natuurstenen plint. Houten kozijnen, op de begane grond tot 2-licht gekoppeld, voorzien van schuiframen met roedeverdeling in de bovenramen. Entree met bovenlicht.
Het object bestaat uit een voorhuis dat waarschijnlijk geheel uit het begin van deze eeuw dateert en een veel ouder achterhuis (voor 1850). Het voor- en achterhuis worden verbonden door de ruimte waar zich het rijke trappenhuis uit het begin van deze eeuw bevindt.
Op de begane grond in de gang ondermeer facet-tegels als borstwering aan de wand; originele deuren; voor- en achterkamer van voorhuis met stucplafond en origineel schouwtje.
Voorkamer (voorhuis) op eerste verdieping eveneens met stucwerk; indeling van deze verdieping gewijzigd.
Schilddak met plat, gedekt met rode, geglazuurde tuile du nord.
Waardering
De woning, met name de voorgevel, is een zeer herkenbare, rijke en opvallend gedecoreerde vertegenwoordiger van een bouwtrant in Zeeland, waarvan buiten Zierikzee weinig voorbeelden in gave toestand voorkomen. Als zodanig van architectuur- en cultuurhistorische waarde.

The front facade is constructed of neat yellow brick and enlivened with, among other things, arches and pilasters in red brick with accents in whitish stone; pinnacle-like gable and roof dormer elements; green glazed brick threshold bands and arched borders above the ground-floor frames. Tile infills in the arch rings. Natural stone plint. Wooden frames, on the ground floor linked as 2-lights, provided with sash windows with glazing bars in the upper lights. Entrance with fanlight.
The object consists of a front house which presumably dates entirely from the beginning of this century and a much older rear house (before 1850). The front and rear house are connected by the space where the rich stairwell from the beginning of this century is situated.
