Introduction TOWNHOUSE, situated in the closed, consisting of late nineteenth-century townhouses northern facade row of the Praediniussingel, built in 1898 on commission of the Groningen contractor/architect P. Belgraver to his own design in neo-Renaissance style. The building forms part of an ensemble of two townhouses. The tiled forecourt is bordered by an ornately worked wrought-iron fence. Description The building is erected on a rectangular floor plan and comprises three storeys under a hipped roof, covered with a flat Frisian tile. The facade is terminated by a frieze suggestion, consisting of fluted consoles, which support a moulded gutter. The front facade is three bays wide, erected from red brick and provided with a hardstone plinth. The facade masonry is enlivened with stucco dormer bands. The front roof section contains a substantial cabin with scrollwork consoles, which is crowned by a pediment. On the ground floor the windows are square-headed and decorated with corner blocks and quoins. A stuccoed string course separates the ground floor from the first floor. Above the entrance a rectangular wooden bay window on worked consoles is placed against the facade. The bay window is decorated with a moulded gutter strip. Internally still of importance the rooms en suite on the bel étage with wooden sliding doors, black marble fireplaces and ornamented stucco ceilings.
