Inleiding
DUBBELE BEDRIJFSHAL, deel uitmakend van het complex van de voormalige gemeentelijke gasfabriek van Groningen (1854), gesitueerd in het noordwestelijk gedeelte van het terrein tussen Bloemstraat en Bloemsingel, bestaande uit twee zij aan zij geplaatste bouwdelen uit verschillende perioden: het zuidelijke bouwdeel is gebouwd in circa 1910 naar ontwerp van directeur Gemeentewerken Ir. J.A. Mulock Houwer in een karakteristieke, industriële bouwstijl en het noordelijke deel met een opvallende, stalen vakwerkconstructie in circa 1930. De hal fungeert thans als opslagruimte van het gemeentelijk energiebedrijf.
Omschrijving
De meest zuidelijke bedrijfshal is opgetrokken op een rechthoekige plattegrond en telt één bouwlaag onder een zadeldak, belegd met een grijze Friese golfpan. De gevel is opgetrokken uit rode baksteen op een gesinterd trasraam, dat voorzien is van een hardstenen afzaat. De zuidelijke zijgevel van twee raamtraveeën breed wordt afgesloten door een houten bakgoot op klossen. De gevels zijn verlevendigd met speklagen van oranje-gele baksteen. De oostgevel is voorzien van een fors rondboogvenster met rollagen van afwisselend rode en oranje-gele baksteen en een dubbele bedrijfsdeur. Het venster bezit een fijnmazige roedeverdeling met geel glas en een rozet in het middelste bovenlicht. De zijgevel bezit twee segmentboogvormig gesloten vensters, die evenals het venster in de voorgevel door een rollagen van afwisselend gele en rode baksteen worden omlijst. In de topgevels is een klimmend boogfries op hardstenen consoles aangebracht. De top wordt bekroond door een ronde, hardstenen nokvorst. in de top van de achtergevel is een gietijzeren rozetvenster aangebracht. De hal bezit inwendig voor een deel nog de oorspronkelijke wandbetegeling en een in het zicht gelaten houten kapconstructie. De noordelijke bedrijfshal is in circa 1930 aan de oudere hal vastgebouwd. De hal is opgetrokken op een rechthoekige plattegrond en telt één hoge bouwlaag onder een licht gebogen dak, bekleed met dakleer. De gevel bestaat uit een ijzeren onregelmatige vakwerkconstructie, opgevuld met rode baksteen. Een aantal vlakken zijn voorzien van een schoorverbinding of dichtgezet met ruitjes in een fijnmazige roedeverdeling. Het dak rust op een spantconstructie van gebogen stalen spanten op rechte onderranden. In de oostgevel bevindt zich een dubbele, stalen bedrijfsdeur, waarboven een drietal rechthoekige stalen vensters is geplaatst met een twaalf-ruits roedeverdeling.

DOUBLE INDUSTRIAL HALL, forming part of the complex of the former municipal gas factory of Groningen (1854), situated in the northwestern part of the site between Bloemstraat and Bloemsingel, consisting of two side-by-side building components from different periods: the southern building component was built around 1910 after a design by director of Municipal Works Ir. Description
The southernmost industrial hall is constructed on a rectangular ground plan and has one storey under a gabled roof, covered with grey Frisian barrel tile. The façade is built of red brick on a sintered tuff frame, which is provided with a sandstone plinth. The southern side façade, two bays wide, is finished with a wooden rain gutter on corbels. The façades are enlivened with headers of orange-yellow brick. The east façade is provided with a large round-arch window with alternating headers of red and orange-yellow brick and a double industrial door. The window has a fine glazing bars with yellow glass and a rosette in the central fanlight. The side façade has two segmental-arch closed windows, which, like the window in the front façade, are framed by headers of alternating yellow and red brick. The hall is constructed on a rectangular ground plan and has one high storey under a slightly curved roof, covered with roofing felt. The façade consists of an iron irregular truss structure, filled in with red brick. A number of sections are provided with a diagonal bracing or sealed with small panes in a fine glazing bars. The roof rests on a truss structure of curved steel trusses on straight bottom members. In the east façade is a double, steel industrial door, above which three rectangular steel windows are placed with a twelve-pane glazing bars.
