Inleiding WOONHUIS, bestaande uit een beneden- en een bovenwoning, gesitueerd in de nagenoeg gesloten, westelijke gevelwand van de Turfsingel, gebouwd in circa 1880 in een rijk versierde, eclectische bouwstijl. Het gebouw is thans nog in gebruik als beneden- en bovenwoning. Omschrijving Het gebouw is opgetrokken op een rechthoekige plattegrond en telt twee bouwlagen onder een dwarsgeplaatst zadeldak. De voorgevel is vier traveeën breed. De gevels (voor- en zijgevel die in het zicht is gekomen) zijn gepleisterd. De zijgevel bezit op de vlakken die boven de voormalige belender uitstaken, getrokken voegen. Ook de voorgevel is voorzien van schijnvoegen. De venster- en deuropeningen zijn rechtgesloten en voorzien van geprofileerd stuc lijstwerk met cannelures, negblokjes, sluitstenen en op de hoeken diamantkoppen. De gekoppelde toegangsdeuren met bovenlichten van de onder- en bovenwoning zijn in de rechter travee ondergebracht. Onder de eveneens rechtgesloten T-vensters van de verdieping is pleisterwerk aangebracht, dat versierd is met diamantkoppen en palmetten. De gevel wordt afgesloten door een kroonlijst met decoratieve consoles, die de geprofileerde bakgoot steunen. De goot is in het midden onderbroken door een uitgebouwde, gepleisterde kajuit met een klein houten balkon. In de kajuit bevindt zich een segmentboogvormig gesloten openslaande deur met lijstwerk in dezelfde uitdossing als bij de overige muuropeningen. De kajuit ontving een zadeldak. De goot rust op golfvormige consoles. De achtergevel is grijs gestuct en bevat de oorspronkelijke zes-ruitsvensters met hardstenen vensterbanken. Inwendig is de oorspronkelijke indeling redelijk bewaard gebleven. Van belang onder meer de geornamenteerde stuc plafonds in de voorkamers net zwartmarmeren schouwen en houten paneeldeuren. De voorkamer op de verdieping bezit vensters met gekleurd glas-in-lood in de bovenlichten. Waardering WOONHUIS, met een zorgvuldig vormgegeven gevel met een classicistischdecoratieschema, van algemeen belang vanwege zijn cultuurhistorische en architectuurhistorische waarde vanwege de architectonische kwaliteit van het ontwerp. Bovendien vormt het gebouw een waardevol architectonisch element in de westelijke gevelwand van de Turfsingel in Groningen.

Introduction DWELLING HOUSE, consisting of a ground-floor and an upper dwelling, situated in the nearly closed, western facade of the Turfsingel, built around 1880 in an elaborately decorated, eclectic architectural style. The building is currently still in use as a ground-floor and upper dwelling.
Description The building is erected on a rectangular plan and comprises two storeys under a transversely placed gabled roof. The front facade is four bays wide. The facades (front and side facade which has come into view) are rendered. The side facade possesses drawn joints on the surfaces that projected above the former neighbouring property. The front facade too is provided with false joints. The window and door openings are right-angled and provided with profiled stucco mouldings with fluting, blocking pieces, keystones and on the corners diamond heads. The paired entrance doors with fanlights of the ground-floor and upper dwelling are housed in the right bay. Below the likewise right-angled T-windows of the upper storey is plasterwork applied, which is decorated with diamond heads and palmettes. The facade is finished with a cornice with decorative consoles, which support the profiled guttering. The gutter is interrupted in the middle by an extended, rendered cabin with a small wooden balcony. In the cabin is a segmental-arch opening door with mouldings in the same treatment as the other wall openings. The cabin received a gabled roof. The gutter rests on wave-shaped consoles. The rear facade is grey rendered and contains the original six-pane windows with sandstone sills. Internally the original layout has been reasonably preserved. Of importance among others the ornamented stucco ceilings in the front rooms with black marble fireplaces and wooden panelled doors. The front room on the upper storey has windows with coloured stained glass in the fanlights.
Assessment DWELLING HOUSE, with a carefully designed facade with a classical decoration scheme, of general interest by virtue of its cultural-historical and architectural-historical value because of the architectural quality of the design. Moreover the building forms a valuable architectural element in the western facade of the Turfsingel in Groningen.
