Inleiding WOONHUIS MET JONGERE WINKELPUI, gesitueerd in de gesloten westelijke gevelwand van de Oude Kijk in 't Jatstraat, met een in oorsprong uit de achttiende eeuw stammende gevel, verbouwd in 1906 tot hoedenwinkel in opdracht van Mej. L. Duut naar ontwerp van de Groninger architecten K. & G. Hoekzema in Art Nouveau-stijl (pui). Het gebouw is thans als winkel met bovenwoning in gebruik. Het interieur van de winkel is geheel gemoderniseerd en aan de achterzijde uitgebouwd en van ondergeschikt belang. Omschrijving Het gebouw is opgetrokken op een rechthoekige plattegrond en telt twee bouwlagen onder een schilddak, belegd met een zwarte golfpan. De drie raamtraveeën brede voorgevel wordt aan de bovenzijde afgesloten door een gootlijst met een geprofileerde bakgoot. In het voordakschild bevindt zich een later aangebrachte houten dakkapel. De begane grond wordt over de volle breedte ingenomen door een houten winkelpui. Het venster staat op een hardstenen plint, met aan weerszijden van de gevel hardstenen sokkels, waarop houten pilasters rusten. De pilasters zijn gebeeldhouwd met spiegeldragende vrouwenfiguren en florale motieven, iconologisch afgestemd op de oorspronkelijke bestemming van de winkel als hoedenwinkel. Op de houten architraaf, waarachter een stalen puibalk schuilgaat, zijn eveneens bloemmotieven aangebracht. De vormgeving van de voordeur en het bovenlicht is bijzonder verfijnd met een houten roedeverdeling, waarin geslepen glas is gezet. Het gevelmuurwerk op de verdieping is witgesausd; dat van de achtergevel is gepleisterd en voorzien van drie rechtgesloten vensters. Introduction DWELLING HOUSE WITH YOUNGER SHOP FRONTAGE, situated in the closed western facade wall of the Oude Kijk in 't Jatstraat, with a facade originally dating from the eighteenth century, converted in 1906 into a hat shop by order of Miss L. Duut according to the design of the Groningen architects K. & G. Hoekzema in Art Nouveau style (frontage). The building is currently in use as a shop with a flat above. The interior of the shop has been completely modernised and extended at the rear and is of subordinate importance. Description The building is erected on a rectangular ground plan and consists of two storeys under a hipped roof, covered with black corrugated tile. The three-bay wide front facade is terminated at the top by a gutter moulding with a profiled gutter. In the roof slope of the front elevation there is a later-added wooden roof dormer. The ground floor is occupied over its full width by a wooden shop frontage. The window stands on a hardstone plinth, with hardstone plinths on either side of the facade, upon which wooden pilasters rest. The pilasters are sculpted with mirror-bearing female figures and floral motifs, iconographically attuned to the original purpose of the shop as a hat shop. On the wooden architrave, behind which a steel shop beam is concealed, floral motifs are likewise applied. The design of the front door and fanlight is particularly refined with wooden glazing bars, in which cut glass is set. The facade masonry on the upper storey is whitewashed; that of the rear facade is rendered and provided with three rectangular windows.
