Inleiding
DUBBEL WINKELWOONHUIS, gesitueerd in de gesloten westelijke gevelwand van de Oude Kijk in 't Jatstraat, gebouwd in 1893 op de plaats van het oudste renaissance-huis in de stad Groningen in een rijk versierde neo-Renaissance-stijl. Het gebouw is thans nog in gebruik als winkel met op de verdiepingen wooneenheden.
Omschrijving
Het imposante dubbelbrede winkelpand met bovenwoningen is opgetrokken op een rechthoekige plattegrond en telt drie bouwlagen onder een zeer vlak, dwarsgeplaatst mansarde-dak, belegd met een kruispan. De gevel wordt afgesloten door een flinke, geprofileerde kroonlijst met consoles en een geprofileerde bakgoot. Op het voordakschild zijn boven de twee buitenste traveeën kajuiten met rolwerkwangen en tympanen en boven de twee andere traveeën kleine dakkapellen met tympanen geplaatst. De voorgevel is vier raamtraveeën breed en gemetseld van roodbruine baksteen. De begane grond wordt ingenomen door een dubbele winkelpui op een hardstenen plint. In het midden is een portiek onder een rondboog aangebracht, waarin een fraai bewerkte voordeur naar de bovenwoningen leidt. Het houten lijstwerk, bestaande uit pilasters en kroonlijst van de winkelpui is in uitbundige neo-Renaissance stijl vormgegeven. Op de verdiepingen springen de buitenste traveeën een weinig uit. De vensters zijn rechtgesloten, behalve die op de tweede verdieping, die rondboogvormig gesloten zijn. Alle vensters hebben rijk gedecoreerd lijstwerk met pilasters en architraven, die met rankwerk en guirlandes zijn versierd. DOUBLE SHOP DWELLING HOUSE, situated in the closed western facade wall of the Oude Kijk in 't Jatstraat, built in 1893 on the site of the oldest Renaissance house in the city of Groningen in a richly decorated neo-Renaissance style. The building is still in use as a shop with residential units on the upper storeys.
Description
The imposing double-width shop premises with upper dwellings is erected on a rectangular plan and comprises three storeys under a very flat, cross-placed mansard roof, laid with a ridge tile. The facade is terminated by a substantial, profiled cornice with corbels and a profiled brick gutter. On the front roof panel, above the two outer bays, cabins with roll-work corbels and tympana and above the two other bays small dormers with tympana are placed. The front facade is four window bays wide and built of red-brown brick. The ground floor is occupied by a double shopfront on an ashlar plinth. In the middle a portico under a round arch is provided, in which a finely worked front door to the upper dwellings leads. The wooden moulding, consisting of pilasters and cornice of the shopfront is designed in exuberant neo-Renaissance style. On the upper storeys the outer bays project slightly. The windows are straight-sided, except those on the second storey, which are round-arched. All windows have richly decorated moulding with pilasters and entablatures, which are adorned with scrollwork and garlands. Internally still of importance is the wall tiling in the interior of the left-hand shop.
