Inleiding
WOONHUIS, gesitueerd in de gesloten oostelijke gevelwand van de Munnekeholm, gebouwd in omstreeks 1850 in een ambachtelijk-traditionele bouwtrant met classicistische stijl-elementen. Het gebouw is thans nog in gebruik als woonhuis. De aanbouw aan de achtergevel is van later datum en valt buiten de bescherming.
Omschrijving
Het gebouw is opgetrokken op een rechthoekige plattegrond met een langgerekte achterbouw en telt twee bouwlagen onder een dwarsgeplaatst zadeldak, belegd met een geglazuurde oude Hollandse pan. De voorgevel is vier traveeën breed en opgetrokken uit een helderrode baksteen en voorzien van een gepleisterde plint. De monumentale toegangsdeur is asymmetrisch in de gevel geplaatst en wordt omkaderd door een gestucte lijst met rustica-imitatie, sluitsteen en een rijk geprofileerde architraaf. De voordeur is dubbelbreed en voorzien van panelen en hoog bovenlicht. De vensters en de rechter toegangsdeur naar de bovenwoning zijn licht getoogd met strekken. Op de verdieping bevinden zich vier licht getoogde T-vensters. De achtergevel is gestuct en van schijnvoegen voorzien. De gevel wordt afgesloten door een geprofileerde kroonlijst onder een uitkragende bakgoot. De kajuit is vermoedelijk later aangebracht en heeft een geprofileerde lijst met een kepervorm. Naast deze kajuit bevindt zich een kleine kapel van jongere datum.
Waardering
Woonhuis, ingetogen vormgegeven met een classicistische lijstgevel uit het midden van de negentiende eeuw, van algemeen belang vanwege zijn cultuurhistorische en architectuurhistorische waarde. Het gebouw vertegenwoordigt een in de stad Groningen vrij zeldzaam voorkomend woonhuistype uit het midden van de negentiende eeuw. The building is erected on a rectangular ground plan with an elongated rear building and comprises two storeys under a transversely placed gabled roof, covered with a glazed old Dutch pan. The front façade is four bays wide and erected from bright red brick and provided with a plastered plinth. The monumental entrance door is placed asymmetrically in the façade and is framed by a stuccoed band with rustication imitation, keystone and a richly moulded architrave. The front door is double-width and provided with panels and high fanlight. The windows and the right entrance door to the upper dwelling are slightly arched with stone lintels. On the first floor there are four slightly arched T-windows. The rear façade is stuccoed and provided with false joints. The façade is closed off by a moulded cornice under a projecting gutter. The cabin is presumably applied later and has a moulded band with a herringbone shape. Next to this cabin is a small chapel of later date.
Evaluation
Residential house, modestly designed with a classicistic cornice-topped façade from the middle of the nineteenth century, of general importance because of its cultural-historical and architectural-historical value. The building represents a fairly rare residential house type from the middle of the nineteenth century in the city of Groningen.
