Inleiding
POORT met beelden en reliëfs in de gevel van het kantoorgebouw van de voormalige socialistische coöperatieve bakkerij 'De Toekomst' uit 1913. Het kantoorgebouw is ontworpen door de Amsterdanse architecten Z. Gulden & M. Geldmaker. De beelden en het fries, die de arbeid symboliseren, zijn vervaardigd door de Groninger beeldhouwer A. van der Lee.
Omschrijving
Rechthoekige poort met zandstenen omlijsting waarbij op decoratieve wijze aan weerszijden op de hoeken twee beelden in de vorm van figuren met gereedschap zijn uitgebeeld: links een industriearbeider met voorhamer, rechts een landarbeider met schop. Boven de poort bevindt zich een verhoogd rechthoekig fries van zandsteen waarop in het midden een stralende zon en zes naakte figuren zijn uitgebeeld.

Description
Introduction GATEWAY with figures and reliefs in the facade of the office building of the former socialist cooperative bakery 'De Toekomst' from 1913. The office building was designed by the Amsterdam architects Z. Gulden & M. Geldmaker. The figures and the frieze, which symbolise labour, were created by the Groninger sculptor A. van der Lee.
Description
Rectangular gateway with sandstone surround in which in a decorative manner on either side at the corners two figures in the form of workers with tools are depicted: on the left an industrial worker with a sledgehammer, on the right a farm worker with a spade. Above the gateway is located a raised rectangular sandstone frieze on which in the centre a radiating sun and six naked figures are depicted.

Richly sculptured gateway, component of the office building of the former socialist cooperative bakery 'De Toekomst', of general importance because of its cultural-historical value and because of the integrity and the rarity (at regional level) of the decorations and because of its significance for the social history of the social democratic labour movement.
