GENTLEMAN'S HOUSE WITH COACH HOUSE, situated in the closed western facade wall of the Parklaan, which forms the western boundary of the Zuiderpark, built in 1873 in a richly decorated, eclectic architectural style. In 1918 the rear facade was modified by the construction of a conservatory with balcony. A few years ago the stained glass fanlights of the windows, filled with a distinctive ray pattern, were removed. Description

The building is erected on a mainly square ground plan and comprises two storeys under a truncated hipped roof, covered with black glazed Frisian pantile. The facade is terminated by a cornice with moulded wooden gutter. Against the roof a plastered cabin is placed in the middle with double semicircular arched window, pilasters with acanthus and leaf work in stucco and in the triangular top a substantial lion's head. The five bays wide front facade is symmetrical in design and entirely plastered. The facade is articulated by double pilaster arrangements on the corners and by broad pilasters on either side of the entrance bay. The pilasters of the ground floor are executed in partly rusticated imitation-rustica. The pilasters on the upper storey have panels and composite capitals. The windows consist of paired semicircular arches with narrow pilasters, moulded stucco mouldings, capitals and cornices. The window sills rest on consoles. In the middle is a carved wooden panelled door with a sandstone step in a shallow portico with moulded stucco surround under a semicircular arch. Above this is a richly worked balcony with open balustrade on double consoles. The upper storey contains a double french door under a semicircular arch with above it a stucco surround of an architrave decorated with acanthus leaf and scrollwork on consoles. Internally among other things the hall with corridor and the ornamented stucco ceilings and chimney-pieces in the rooms on the piano nobile are of importance.
